Hi Richard, Glad you found some decent speakers! Are they standard 6x4? Cheers, Tim.
Tim Jenner
They must be loud! YOU'RE HAVING TO SHOUT!!! Sam ;-)
Sam Murray
i bought some Kenwood speakers to fit in the back of my car - they were 6x9's. When i fitted them up and cranked up the volume they sounded cr4p! I was very disapointed and annoyed...they were 60GBP speakers, 240 W max output and sound terrible. I used to have a set in my other car, they were the model down; they were fine, these were terrible. i blamed the wiring in the mgf!
John
Why not rewire then?
Daryl
John - poor wiring maybe - but also inadequate amplification from the head unit?
Rob Bell
I am the guy who is still trying to sort out the fitting of the start button in the car - i really really couldnt be bothered to rewire the head unit / rear speakers. as for the head unit amplification - it is the m8800 by sony, so it should be fine... I may have another go when i have more patients, but at the moment i have very little because of my frustration with the start button.

yes tim they are but advertised on e bay as 4x6 but same thing fitted great

Maybe a silly question - Do you need a special rear panel for this or can you just get out the old Jigsaw??? Matt (The Butcher)

>> Do you need a special rear panel for this or can you just get out the old Jigsaw??? << Like this Matt?: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/installing_rear_t.htm

Sorry to be a bore but the following picture... http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/removing_head_unit.jpg is this the normal dash / console of a mgf pre 2001. there are some quite subtle differences from my 2001 model... the temp and clock are the other way round; the knobs / dials are different, mine are silver i think and a different shape.
John
Looks just like my '96 VVC did
JohnP
... except that Rob has swapped time/temp dials. It's a bit like people who wear their watch with the face on the inside of the wrist.
JohnP
>> is this the normal dash / console of a mgf pre 2001. << Yes, that's right: that is a completely standard pre-2000 model year MGF centre console. Well, except for the positions of the clocks, that I swapped around to suit me! The post MY2000 stereo has a different release procedure (depending on the stereo installed): if the BMW sourced single CD player, there is a flap on either side of the stereo fascia that needs to be opened, and the retainers unscrewed using a allen (or was it a torx???) bit... Straightforward enough once you know how. :o)
Rob Bell
Ya beat me to the type there John ;o)
