MG MGF Technical - rear suspension failure

Having had my rear "stiffer" shocks ripped out of their mountings,I am just having new brackets welded in. Should I reinforce with plates as per Trophy race cars or can I get away with plates such as Mike Satur sells.
A. W. Regens

Hi,
it is far between the spot-welds in that area... Mikes plates should be fine, the important thing here is to get GOOD welds (and do it in a way that the car doesn´t catch fire! ). IMHO any DIYér with garage experience sees where it hurts and rolls his own plates.
Be sure that the battery is dissconected before welding and be sure of a good ground-return for the welder not too far from the welding takes place.
BR, Carl.

What type of shocks did you have? I ahve AVOs, and as far as I know, as long as they are not set above 10 clicks, plates are not required...now I'm worried!
Karl Woodhead

So were mine, set on 10 clicks rear. I also have lowering knuckles and polyurethane bushes, all this fitted over last 10mths and 15000km. Track time about an hour total. My car is a mess with very serious stress fractures BUT other cars that have done years of track work and run stiffer shocks than AVO's have not been affected !.Just keep checking.
