MG MGF Technical - Rear window
Bit of a boring one. Today I managed to break the zip of the rear window. Its not the teeth just the little bit you pinch when opening and closing. The roof and window are perfect, so any cheap recommendations that do not require changing the whole zip or window would be appreciated. I can't be the first. |

A bit annoying if only slight damage prevents use. If all else fails visit M&M Trimming Company, Unit 8 Queen Mary's Avenue, Watford, Herts WD18 7JR tel: 01923 230340. They fitted a new zip for me when mine failed. They fitted a zip with bigger, stronger teeth than the original. They are nice people to deal with but possibly not the cheapest although they are the only ones I have personnaly dealt with. Zip replacement requires the roof and frame to be removed and left with them so pick a nice day of unbolt at home and fit the hardtop. If you have not done it before, the roof is removed by losening the t-bar to get at the 2 bolts. Good luck. |

T Graveling, I too suffered the problem, the "zipper" breaking and not the actual zip. Tugged it too hard when closing the hood and bl00dy thing broke. Anyway, phoned mainagents - were not interested in fixing the fault, only in selling me a rear window, one wanted to sell me a new hood. I was not prepared to buy a new window the sake of a broken zip. So I asked the parts department at a mainagents in Oxford area. Eventually with a bit of bull sh1t managed to find out that the agents dont even fix it themselves, just subcontract it out, and got the name of the hood fitters. They are based in Witney. The guy there was very honest and provided value for money. He removed the zip, replaced it with a new one and rethreaded it. The window now fits as new. He did not even want paying. Out of couteousy I paid him £20 for his trouble. I neednt have bothered but I think when people honestly put themselves out for you and provide a good service then this needs to be recognised. Shame on you mainagents, demanding £250+vat for the job. I think their number is: 01993 776800 2nd Whitney turnoff, right at roundabout, straight on for 1/2 mile, Sainsburys opp, turn right, 2nd industrial estate on righthandside, go down to the second to last turning, turn right and they are straight ahead of you tucked away in the corner. I know its a bit a treck, I live west of London, but it makes for a great day out, beautiful roads in Oxfordshire. Ian R925 BWU |

That's handy - I live in Witney! What's the name of the company? Cheers, Mark |

Are the folk in Witney general trimmer, and do they have a company name/address that you can remember? Might be useful sometime! Neil. |

T Graveling I can recomend Maidstone Sports Cars in Headcorn, Kent, for zip repairs. Ian - completely off subject, are you going on the White Horse Run this Sunday? Angela GN02 PKZ |

Mark, Neil From memory the firm is called Trimrods, and they are located in the second industrial estate on the righthand side, having already turned right opp Sainsbury at the lights... sure Mark will know where I mean, Whitney isnt exactly big! Essentially they are hood fitters for the motortrade so provide materials for all convertables. Fit rear windows as well and.... They are who the main agents use, so quality is no more of an issue. Angela Whats the White Horse Run? Im a relative newcomer to the MG fold andso never get invited to such events. Though when driving on the M4 I always get followed by at least one MGF for 30mins! Ian, The White Horse Run has been organised by the MGCC MGF/TF register, more information can be found on the White Horse Run III thread on the MG events and social section. Its certainly worth coming along if you're free this Sunday. If you want more information or you want to be informed of future MGF outings send me your email address. Angela GN02 PKZ |

Ian - which section of the M4 do you use? I travel daily from Jn 11 to Jn 5 and back again. Must say, this area is the most F-populous I've ever known! - Peter, P761DRX (with dodgy brake lights - see Technical postings!) |

Peter, Every week I drive from London to South Wales : ( Yesterday there was a BRG F, P reg following me Last week a red F Week before a topless BRG F, driver thought I was stalking her I think, so she zoomed off at 100mph+ Fs seem very popular in that part of the country. Whereas when Im in Leeds or York, an F is a rare car. Ian R925 BWU |

This happened to me too! - I used a spare key ring and works just fine! |

Key ring solution used here with success too. Splash out and buy an 'MG' branded one.... but not from MGRover, obviously! Anthony |
