Paul,

what was the fault and the fix?

Cheers,
Branko.

Paul, check inbox

Good morning Branko,

The noise source was due to the ballrace which supports rhe motor drive shaft. There was clear evidence of rust in and around this bearing. The bearing is a shrouded ball race, 22mm outside diameter, 8mm bore and 7mm thick. I bought one from stock in a bearing shop for just ubder £6.

Stripping out is straightforward but the design is not intended to be repaired. Covers and internals are rivitted and the brush gear is a fiddle to replace.

I am mailing pics to Dieter, advise if you want copies.

Regards

Hi Paul,

got the images
:o)
Big Thank You !! They are great !!

Reworked with grafics proggy and hosted to

However, IMO the main reason for water ingress to the motor is on one hand a missing bonnet plastik cover, but on the other hand it's the kinda mad assembly angle of the standard motor in the MGF.
The water drain nozzle is originally wrong located _above_ the bearing.

Paul did a new drain hole on the correct lowest location of the gearbox.

I think it will last forever

Hi Paul,

Wow!, those pics are great!
Nice macro, and, the important bits are in focus.

Well done.

Did you bring your old bearing to the supplier when you bought the new one? Was it easy to match?

I'll have to do the same soon for my wifes car.

Cheers,
Branko.

Hi Branko,

that bearing is cheap _bog standard_ with this measures.
However you can buy different grades of precision according to the load and rotation speed.
Take what you get, cause the wiper motor application is lowest degree.

Anyway, try to find a bearing for 8mm shaft and 22mm OD which has water protection cover plates (lip seals). Might be double of the price mentioned.

The european would ask for.

cheapest option:
SKF or FAG type 608.2Z...
FAG Radial ball bearings 608.2Z
main dimensions to DIN 625-1, gap seals on both sides
http://medias.ina.de/medias/en!hp.ec.br.pr/60...2ZR_FAG*608.2Z_FAG;aVekIHIWZzV9

next better is:
FAG Radial ball bearings 608.2RS
main dimensions to DIN 625-1, lip seals on both sides
http://medias.ina.de/medias/en!hp.ec.br.pr/60...2RSR_FAG*608.2RS_FAG;aVekIHIWZzV9

The very best would be made from stainless steal, but IMO not standard availiable for 8mm shaft.

4you

Hi There Dieter,

thanks for all that info!

I'll bring mine with me when I buy the bearing. That way the sales person can match it perfectly.
The FAG and SKF bearings are easy to get here, so I should have no problems.

Cheers,
Branko.
