MG MGF Technical - Replacing the front to rear brake pipe?

Hi,

I am looking for some advice on replacing my front to rear brake pipe on an '98 MGF. Mine is quite badly corroded where it goes through a right angle back into the engine bay up to the t joint.

What are the pit falls? Is everything metric or imperial?

All advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Tim.
Tim

Not a task I've undertaken - but there is some information on this in the archives. It's worth signing up to this site Tim for the 10years worth of accumilated knowledge :o)

I believe that the pipe unions will all be metric (not quite 100% sure about the front calipers though) :o)

Tim i changed mine in june mot fail its only easy if you can raise both front and rear of car for access. the hardest bit is getting the old one out at the front then i just took it to local shop and got them to make a new one out of copper this is easier to put back on because it's a lot more flexible. while your at it make sure the pipe from rear tee to offside rear is ok mine failed on both with a note made about the nearside aswell. hope this helps.

I replaced mine for last years MOT. It took about 7 hours labour and about £30 for pipes and t joint.

Not my car !!

Ouch! That is pretty bad.

Why on earth did MGR make the pipes from steel when you could have used copper - it can't save THAT much money?
