MG MGF Technical - Resonator box removal - he laughs!

Gents,
Just fitted a K&N panel filter and re-routed the flexi pipe so it now runs from the airbox inlet elbow to the side vent.
Has anyone ever sucessfully removed the resonator box from the car, without the use of magic!
I found the 2 bolts in the wheel arch, and also removed the bracket which sits on top of the N/S rear wheel arch - but no chance. Was the rest of the car built around this or what?
Any ideas?
Thanks
Gareth
PS
Maybe I was using a bit more pedal to convince myself, but I was surprised how much quicker the car feels with the mod.

<Was the rest of the car built around this or what?>

More or less LOL

Most people that have removed the box have resorted to cutting it out! Personally I just did not bother, it acts as a mud barrier!

I did warn you about the resonator box!! :o/

I did make a half hearted attempt to remove mine when I did the same mod........ but the hire shop had no Still saws left!!.....

Glad you have noticed a difference. :o))

Gareth,
There is a bit of work involved to successfully remove the resonator box. (if you are so inclined)

Here is a list of what to do (from the workshop manual)

1. Remove air cleaner.
2. Remove engine compartment access panel.
3. Loosen clip securing air intake pipe to
resonator.
4. Disconnect pipe from resonator.
5. Raise rear of vehicle, Support on safety stands.
6. Remove LH rear road wheel.
7. Remove nut securing top of damper to body.
8. Remove rear anti-roll bar.
9. Remove 2 bolts securing resonator to inner
wheel arch.
10. Release ABS sensor lead from Hydragas unit
bracket.
11. Support LH side of body with jack.
12. Remove 5 bolts securing LH side of subframe
to body.
13. Raise body away from subframe to gain
access to resonator.
14. Remove air intake resonator.

Simple, hugh? :-]

Branko.

You could bend the wheel arch liner, loosen the bracket that holds the fuel filter to have better access from within.
It requires some hacking and cutting the box though. And a lot of swearing. I believe youŽd better let it in. Keeps the mud out.

It looks it's staying where it is then!

Yup, I've still got mine fitted, 7 years after replacing the standard filter for the K&N! ;o)
