MG MGF Technical - Road tax

I'm sure that I read something about different road tax rates on TF's based on the VIN no. I've searched the archives without sucess. Can anyone help?

This only applies to the 135 as the 115 and 160 were in a lower tax bracket (E) anyway. The lower tax bracket (E) for the 135 kicks in from VIN RD617391.

A bit more detail on this here: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group1/info/car_tax/index.htm

The DVLA should automatically know which version of TF135 you have, and bill you appropriately. I don't know of anyone being over or under charged?

J.S. if it says 189 on your log book you cop for the high band, like me! This only seems to apply to early T.F.'s ( 02 ). Just wish I could find out what M.G. did to get it down to 185 the following years, and save myself £40 p.a. (;o(

Tell me about it having just shelled out £190 for a small round bit of paper!

The change happened I believe for the 04MY (late 2003). I have speculated that it’s just the fuel map that has changed and there is a possibility that we have that map in our cars if the ECU was flashed with the latest map. But even if this were the case there is nothing we can do to overturn the original tax banding even if MGR hadn’t turned its wheel nuts up.

See above link - there is no way that any individual car can be re-homologated unfortunately. If you have an early version number TF135, you're stuck - and there is genuinely nothing you can do about it :o(
