MG MGF Technical - Rusty Spots....

Hello again...just a quick one, :)

I have a tiny bit of rust - light brownish patches just starting to show on the 2 seams at the top of the front windscreen on my '98 MK1 MGF.

Is there anything I can do to treat it before it starts to damage the paintwork? I really don't want to rub it down and respray it because it's Metallic Nightfire Red.

Thanks in advance...

Nick - have similar problem on my 98 F, with the seam and several rust spots, which I put down to stone chips. Was advised to carefully remove blistering with wet/dry and apply a cure rust product. Then apply primer and touch up. Finally polish.
I have recently gone through this procedure again and am now considering having the windscreen surround resprayed professionally. Good luck.

Hmm, I,ve got exactly the same issue. Stone chips - I wonder if someone like chips-away woudl be any use?

Thanks for your advice. :)

Mine is a Mk1 black surround that was badly chipped/crazed.
Cost me about £80 last year. Great job and pleased I had it done as the marks spoiled the otherwise great looking car.

This is what I was quoted for the chrome screen suround kit for my F, and as mine is the standard black, the kit would have "Killed two birds, with one shiny bit!".

However My promised source let me down, and cant find out if anyone else does one!!. :o(
