MG MGF Technical - Scratches

Just got home to find that a well known utility company contractors have dug a great big hole next to my drive and to boot scuffed/scrapped the wing of my beloved 'F', with and additional blob of tarmac to finnish job.

Now hopefully this will end amicably with them coughing up!!

But in the worst case scenario that I have to rectify the scratch myself, any suggestions how this can easily achieved? - been a bit of a car novice.

My 'F' is plat silver, the damage 3" long scratch through the lacquer coat, but not to the bare metal

Thanks in advance!

You have two options
1. Find a paint chip repairer in Yellow pages and for about £60 he will take your eye away from the scratch.
2. Find a local reputable independant bodyshop who will repaint the wing for about £200.

I chose the last option after a parking dent and the results were really good on a BRG car.

Hope this is of help to you.

Someone has run a Key down my Drivers door - its with Chipsaway now to get rectified. Costing about 100 Sqid.

As a fellow Northamptonion (Sp?) where abouts did that happen?

P.s You will have to let us know how chips away are I need to get the stone chips on my car done at some point :(

Reporting in! B@stard sctrached my car in the car park at work (Peterborough), CCTV cameras were useless.
Chipsaway had a go, got rid of the scratch but could not blend the paint in. Now the door looks a mess. Going to Townsends tomorrow to get a quote for respray.

NOT Happy!

Some prat did the same to my car.
The garage that repainted the bumper and rear wing made an excellent job. I cannot tell and I am one fussy person with my car.
Get a price, then offer the folding stuff!

Good Luck

Yep, have to say that although these trim companies can hide a scratch/chip to an extent - you can always see it if you know it is there. Also the finish is not a smooth as the laquered paintwork and if you are like me it will always bug you!!!

I am very fussy with my TF and seeing it as it is now is killing me! They quoted around 200 quid over the phone (MG Dealer) but will take in for proper quote. Good to hear yours did a good job - i hope this one does too!

Biting the bullet and handing over the cash....!

If they do a good job i will collect a few more Stone Chips on the Bonnet first and get that resprayed too!

Hi,

there is hope for us car Enthusiasts regarding scratches ...
A German company developed chemical Nanomer *Super scratch-resistant automotive paint* technology wherein *smallest* ceramics get included to laquers.
Just seen in TV news, it will get introduced in about two years.

So do you think Chips Away would be ok for doing just stone chips?

Surely it has to be better than a DIY kit?
J Price

Chips Away are a franchise, the stuff they use is called Langa (sp?) do a search for Langa in the archives.
Will Munns

The link you need for Lanka is http://www.frost.co.uk/acatalog/Index_Special_Offers_5.html

Great stuff and very successful in DIY if you are patient.

Langka then - if you search the archives you should find tips/experence on both Langka and on Chipsaway (commonly in the same thread)
Will Munns

I have checked the archives and just to recap:

Langka/Chips away are excellent on stone chips and minor blemishes but not on scratches?
J Price

Thats about the size of it. Plus Langka uses touchup paint, if the paint on your car has faded then the colour won't match.
Will Munns

Will

I think I am ok on that front all though the car is a 96 I think it has been garaged most of its life as apart from the chips (almost all of them from 1 long trip up the M1 I might add) the paint is immaculate :)
J Price

James...I've got some Langka that you can try out to see if it does the trick for you, before buying from Frosts.
Can bring to Sywell on last Sunday meet...
Blue Max

Cheers Bob

That would be great :D

If I get the car back in time that is :(

I use http://www.sprintfinish.co.uk Theydid an excellent job on my Nightfire front wing, 1/4 inch stonechip, and after 2 years you still can't see where it was repaired.
