MG MGF Technical - Seat Belts?...

Does anyone know if the seat belts from the old 3Ms will fit an F ?.

The MG versions had Red belts which I thought may go with my F (Red).

TIA.

Mark, unless you buy new seat belts, I wouldn't attempt the swap: buying second hand, you won't know the true condition of the belts. On such a safety critical piece of equipment, it simply isn't worth risking second hand purchases.

But the good news is that there are specialist seat belt companies that could supply red webbing for your existing MGF seat belts. I read in Practical classics about one specialist in London - but I am sure that there must be companies local to you who could help? Yellow pages may reveal some useful leads :o)

Thanks Rob.

Someone I know says they can get me a boxed set (unused) of red belts, however all he knows is they are Rover ones off one of the 3Ms, but no idea which!, and no idea if they would go in the F!!.

Okay, assuming new and unused... then you could be on a winner.

Probably the things to check are the dimensions and shape of the interia reel mechanism - and whether it will be a direct swap with the mechanisms already in your car. Bear in mind too that some inertia reels bolt to the 'B' post, whereas in the F, it sits horizontally on top of the deck panel behind the seats, under the T-bar trim. You can see the interia reel mechanisms on my car in the photos on this page: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/DIY/hoops/index.htm

The next thing to check are the length of the belts. If they are about the same as the ones in your F, then you could be on a winner. I would imagine, even if the interia reel mechanism is different between the FWD Metro/Maestro/Montego reel, that the belt webbing itself could be transferred to your Fmechanism.

Thanks Again Rob.

Will see if I can get them "Sale or return", in case they dont fit!!.

Any luck with the fitting of the belts and if so can your source secure another set. I have a red F including a red interior.

Andrew.

Sorry just noticed your post!!. :o(

To quote the man from the council highways dept, when asked what he was doing about the big hole in the road, " I am looking into it!".

Will let you know!.
