MG MGF Technical - Soft top lining

I was invited to drive a brand new Audi Cabrio. The car was nice but the soft top was really excellent. Back home -and to real life- the soft top of my F looked very humble. I wonder if any of you people have experience with some kind of inner lining for the F.
Gareth Woods

Mike Satur was listing a hood inner a while back. May be worth speaking with him to find out what the story was.

Gareth
I have had a MS hood liner for about 2 years, it is a superb product,I don't know if they are still available though.
AndyG

AndyG, tell us more as I spotted these a while ago and have been considering one instead of a hardtop as SWMBO doesn't really like them - much quieter, loss of headroom etc?
Tony

On an MGF I saw with the liner fitted (Swain and Jones Demonstrator some years ago), the liner fitment meant it was very difficult to pull the hood up when you are seated in the driver's seat because the the rail that you grab to errect it is covered by the material.

How's yours Andy?
Rob Bell

I find this very difficult to do with the std Rover windstop installed as well.
Steve Ratledge

I remember someone mentioned a german company (Dieter maybe?) that was manufacturing them a couple of years ago. There should be thread in the archives somewhere.
Spyros Papageorghiou

I once saw a friendīs F with the liner fitted. It looked fine. Much better than my F. My friend told me that had been very difficult to fit and that had been necessary to get garage help.

Andy, Did you manage to fit the hood liner yourself?
Was it difficult? Please give us all some details and the real value of the stuff. Thanks.

Rob, Steve, to raise the roof put your right hand over your right shoulder and grab the part of the roof that will seal with the rear edge of the drivers window and lift.
You need the drivers window down and a bit of muscle but that will soon get a good work out!
Russell Parslow

Found it. Check this link on Dieters site http://www.mgfcar.de/softtop/softtop.liner.htm Mike Satur is the UK reseller for the German company.

Gareth,Rob and all.
Mike fitted my liner when I had a new glass screen hood.I find it is very good quality and makes winter driving a bit warmer. The hood still folds ok and it covers the bars so it makes the interior of the car seem more classy.I haven't noticed any probs with headroom, and it does seem a bit less noisy, but with my exhaust it's hard to tell!.I've never tried to pull the roof up from the drivers seat though.
Hope this helps
Andy
AndyG

Russell, you having a larf??
<< and a bit of muscle but that will soon get a good work out!>>
I could barely move the roof let alone lift it up from the driver's seat! Now where are those dumbbells...?;)
Paul Bevan

Firsty, despite what Mike Saturs website, he does NOT sell them any more.

Go to http://www.auco.de/ who does manufactuere and sell them. I have one from them. Prompt delivery and makes a massive difference to the interior. Only colour to get is black. The white one will show the marks!
Julian

Thanks Julian, what was the total price, how easy is it to fit, what holds it up and how thick is it?....questions, questions, questions...:)
Tony

Tony

1. Easy to fit although instructions not too clear on what to do around back window area but got there in the end. There are strong plastic rods, to which the cover is attached, which clip onto the roof frame underneath. Very sturdy.
You do not need a PHD to fit.
2. Material thin but good quality (like velvet in feel but clearly is not velvet!)
3. Payment on line - go to their website
4. Delivery 3 days from order date
5. Price - I paid around Ģ180 incl carriage from Germany but go to website to see current price

Julian

Thanks Julian, might just be tempted for one of these this winter.
Tony

Paul, there's a knack.
I don't work out at all so If I can do it anyone can.
Once you master it you'll never raise the roof any other way.
