MG MGF Technical - Source for new Raditor - ebay?

Hi All,
I want to replace my radiator together with the SS pipes and fitting a PRT. I have an MGF and have read upgrading to the ali radiator from the TF is the way to go.
I have seen radiators avalable from many sources and am unsure what I should get. Original TF is available for 140£ from Rimmer Bros, many aftermarket ones on ebay go for arround 50£.
Does anybody have any suggestions, experience or warnings with the radiators of ebay, as they are a third of the price.

Cheers,
Cyril

Hi Cyril,

Tony had sourced an uprated radiator from MS some years ago.

Not sure whether it's still available. May be useful to ask Scotty for _mainland_ availability.

Hi Dieter

I have read about the MS Radiator, it increases capacity and fitting of the fans is more difficult. Not sure if this is what I want...
Delivery is no problem as I have a good friend in London (regularly forwards me parts and also a mate from work who I see on a bimonthly basis.

So I am really interested in any experience with different radiator types/ suppliers.

I do want to keep my car, so quality is preferred.

I fitted a Mike Satur radiator to my MGF VVC Abingdon last year when i renewed the coolant pipes for stainless steel ones and fitted an expansions with float sensor in?

No problems thus far with it and works well, I believe this radiator is a larger capacity than the standard fit to the MGF so might be a slight benefit to the cooling system for the car.

Hi, i have today received a radiator replacement from a seller on ebay. Brand new item in aluminium for £49.50
My only concern is its core width. My original item was 25mm and the new one is only 13mm. It also has a water capacity of only 700ml.
Dur to the dreaded HGF i think it will be returned to the seller.

Jamie I wouldnt be so hasty. I worked for a company that manufactured radiator cores for 5 years. Your old one will prob have been copper finned with 2 parrallel brass tubes approx 6mm wide. Your new aluminium one although thinner will be single tubed with each tube approc 10-13mm so although thinner the actual diffence between your old and new is actually the gap between the parallel tubes. If you can follow that.

Hi Cyril
I bought the MS one (Radiator MGF/TF Aluminium
ET7451) and didn't get any problems at all, i also change the Coolant Pipes - Stainless Steel, ET5290SSBG in the same time, if you buy it from him, think to add this (Radiator Bleed Screw/Nipple, ET6001).
regards
PS : where are you in switzerland

sorry to jump on this thread but my girlfriends MGF has just started leaking a little from the original 10 year old radiator - i also saw the £49.50 ones on e-bay and was wondering if they will do the job - i was thinking a new cheap one would be better than a 10 year old original surely! they seem to have good feedback on ebay and give a 12 month warranty...

what do you think??

Cheers

Not sure if you are aware, but the F's cooling system is the suspected cause of HGF, so it is one of the areas where it pays to go for quality rather than the cheapest.

The Satur unit is arguably the best on the market: You pay a more for it, but it is far less likely to cause collateral damage in the future.

In case you were wondering MS doesn't pay me or give me discounts, but praise where it's due.

if you're getting the coolant pipes and new hoses, get his hose clips too.
