Mike,

No, better to remove the speedo cluster.
Easy to do that. Will post step info if required.

See my post "Dashtop" 14 February 2005

it has step by step info.

Hi All
I have just removed and covered my cowl in leather to hide crack looks great . I discovered the the 3 plastic tabs had broken off. Instead of removing screws and tabs I decided that I will try to make a clip that hooks on too broken tab.
Raided wifes coat hanger collection took a piece about 100mm long bent it like a staple must be a little wider than tab.
Next is to guess distance form cowl inside to bottom of tab (about 15 /18 mm) and then bend were at about 90degrees to form a
u shaped catch hope this makes sense. I them bent the ends of the wire into two circles to give a larger surface for the glue to grip I the hot glued it onto the inside of the cowl level with the edge (centre tab only you could make 3 but I think 1 will do for now) Dont forget to roughen surface before yo do the glueing.
Abit of trial and error you will have to bend the wire so that it catches the tab when happy scew the front screws in and the cowl shoud be quite firm again . Hope this helps

Ingenunity a wonderul thing!

Mike, doing it this way are you able to take off the cowl at a later stage if you had to?

Hi Branko,
Yup all you have to do is remove the 3 screws in the front and bob your uncle.
Hows it going with your clutch?

Hi Mike,

Well, I am still in the process of gathering info before I actually do anything with it.
I'm leaving this biggest job till last.

I have already put in a CD/MP3 player, bought 2 front tyres, and now I am fixing the door fabric panels. I'm also getting a stone chip fixed by a windscreen repair guy.

BTW, I am trying to track down a guy in NSW that has MGF wrecks/parts. All I know he lives out in the "sticks". The place in Melbourne will not give me his name as they are scared it would diddle them out of some of their business. They actually use him for parts to sell on.

Will keep trying.

Branko.
