MG MGF Technical - sqeaking noise from pax side rear wheel

Y MGF

Can anyone help? constant sqeeking from pax side rear wheel, when at average speed can hardly hear it but once drop to below 40 noise becomes louder as decrease speed. Recently all pads and discs have been changed and the front wheel bearing on that side aswell. A number of garages are unsure of the problem saying it could be inner cv joint which has been greased and still problems persists!!!
Any experience, advice or knowledge would be greatfully appreciated as its very becoming very frustrating and expensive!

If the NSR wheelbearing hasn't gone I would be very surprised. You have to really attack old discs to get them off and I am certain it caused my NSR to fail a few thousand miles after the all round discs/pads replacement last year. The bearings don't always obligingly flop about noisily when you check for play in the wheel. Is it noisier when RH cornering?

Thanks for your comments. Yes the discs and pads were a nightmare to remove, and the noise was not as bad prior to changing them, although there is no particular change in noise when cornering. I originally thought it was the wheel bearing but have been told "its definately not...." but have taken it to another garage to get a second opinion on this which I am waiting to hear back from.

The handbrake mechanism isn't returning fully back to it's rest position and so the brakes are rubbing slightly. Lubricating the shaft where it enters the caliper may help for a while but you'll need a new caliper sometime soon.

I'm having exactly the same with my nearside caliper- does it happen to offside ones too I wonder?

Does the squeak change with engine speed Dale? I presume not from your description?
Rob Bell

Thanks for the advice Alan B. Had it checked out today and are currently changing the wheel bearing so heres hoping!!!.

In reference to the squeak, Rob Bell, yeah the squeak becomes louder the slower the car rolls but not actually on slowing down or accelerating, not sure if that makes it any clearer???
Dale

I wonder whether this might be the gearbox, or more likely, the final drive?
