MG MGF Technical - Squeaky heater controls

I know this may have been up before, but my car's just started doing it again...
Does anybody, anywhere out there have the remotest idea how to stop that damn incessant rodent-like squeaking from the heater controls when they're selected to fully cold?
Please?
Before it drives me completely insane. :-@

With WD40, grease or oil.

Three years at engineering college and I missed that one Dieter, ;-)
ok WHERE?!
And please don't say "the heater controls" :-(
Bob

* g, I knew you like a joke ;) even in this desperate case ..

Difficult to say anything serious from 'distance' though.
Where do you think the noise is coming from ?
far hehind the control knobs ? Or more near the knobs ?
This cause there is a *wire in hose* connection between the control gear and the heater valve. I don't think this wire can squeak.

I would start with WD 40 behing the knob. Just pull it of.

The next would be taking off the footwell lamp covers and see for the control assy and heater valve.

A couple of plastic gears and shafts which could cause the noise.

D,
Thanks for your suggestions so far. I'll stop being cheeky now :-/
The noise is coming from behind the controls although personally I doubt it's the actual knob itself.
It also only happens when the temperature is set towards cool, in the left half of the range of movement, with the squeak growing more intense the further the knob is rotated anti-clockwise.
I just wonder if instead of having to pull the car apart anyone knew of a common problem with an easy fix.
Seems like I might just have to go searching :-(
Finally Dieter, I forget where you are in Germany but there might be a few of us thrashing round Die Nurburgring early in June (around the 9th). Wanna come?!
PS For info, "wire-in-hose" is a "Bowden cable"
Bob

Of course, sounds more like a *dry* running gear on a shaft. It's not easy to get the assy out, but not impossible. The radio console has to be removed and finally both bowden cables need to be disconnected (Bowden-Zug in 'German').

The ring in June.. Hmm.. I keep in my mind, but don't think I can make it. *2many jobs* and I probabbly have to move soon to the east :(
