MG MGF Technical - SRS Warning Light

Hi,

Gave my MGF a it's first good clean up since I bought it, all shiny looking again! Hoorah.

Get in car to go out last night SRS warning light stays on! Start and stop a few times, still on. Well goes off very briefly then comes back! Doing the same thing this morning! Any ideas? I did clean under the bonnet area a bit with a damp cloth. Is there any wiring under there related to the SRS that I could have disturbed?

Cheers,

Dan - had similar problem. The SRS has a connection under the driver's seat (spade connector). I was advised by a Rover mechanic to remove and clean. Worked for me.

Dan,

Important! - Make sure you disable the SRS system first before doing this! otherwise the airbag or tensioners could go off.

To do this, open the bonnet, take the battery leads off the battery, leave the car for 15-20 mins while the SRS circuit drains itself and then do the above...

When you're done, put the battery leads back and then to get the locking all in sync again... close the doors and press the locking button on your keyfob lots of times until it locks... then you're fine again.

Cheers

Urgh! Had already removed and re-fitted the connector before I saw your reply Chris! Luckily it either had no effect or I was fiddling with the wrong wires!

I can only see one wire under the drivers seat so can't see that I got the wrong bit. It's a red plastic connector that fits onto the underside of the seat by sliding over a bendy bit of metal.

Well if that's it, it looked clean as new so can't see that I could have any effect on that.

Any other suggestions? Is it on its own fuse? Could that have blown?

Hi anymore ideas on this?

Had a look at all the fuses under the bonnet and none have blown. Does anyone know of any more connectors that could have been dislodged?
Dan Wavell

Don't forget there is the equivalent wire under the passenger seat. If you knocked this whilst cleaning then the SRS light will come on.
