MG MGF Technical - Stiffening Kit (VHS, Not Viagra!)

Due to budgit constraints, Do you need to fit soild subframe mounts before the cross brace kit?
If so, are MG TF soild subframe mounts the same as the VHS soild subframe mount kit?
(If second hand ones are cheaper i can afford the VHS cross brace kit, but not both, wife+kids+food or car? tough eh)
Thanks
John

Fitting the crossbrace kit is going to put more stress on the subframe mounts, so elderly OE rubber mounts will struggle to cope & probably negate the benefit of the crossbraces. AFAIK the VHS mounts are standard TF spec but worth a call to them to check.

Thanks Bandit,
I'll give them a call, its just in this economic climate i feel a bit cheeky not supporting our specialists.

You can undertake the conversion in parts John. The subframe mounts are probably the least 'invasive' and therefore the cheapest to do first. Thereafter there are gains to be had by adding the braces there after.

Hope this helps

Rob (and probably Dieter!)- I got a print-out parts list at my local (ex)MGR parts dealer to see if it was a good idea to buy the subframe brace from there. (Although I've upgraded to TF underneath, unfortunately Mike Satur didn't fit them). I'm confused though, as there are alternatives listed -
Item 903 - p/no KGZ000040 - Brace-front subframe RH - Qty 1 - £24.41
Item 903 - p/no KGZ000060 - Brace-front subframe RH - Qty 1 - £23.62
Item 903 - p/no KGZ000050 - Brace-front subframe LH - Qty 1 - £46.26
Item 903 - p/no KGZ000070 - Brace-front subframe LH - Qty 1 - £23.62
They also gave chassis nos (I presume) of 2D600101-3D618325 for the first, and 3D618326 on for the second. I assume that also applies to the LH braces, but why is one nearly twice as expensive as the rest?! Perhaps the answer will be for me to get the later version and hope!
The scuttle brace means an awful lot of dismantling, but a scrap TF could no doubt be a donor for all three positions if it could be found.

I hadn't realised that there had been two iterations of the subframe braces. Not sure which you'd need, but the cost difference really is significant. We clearly need to know what the differences are - but when I've looked at the EPC in the past, there really isn't much to go on here... (both sets of part numbers are listed on Dieter's excellent EPC at http://www.mgfcar.de/epc/)

I have checked with the rover parts dealer on these items and the only stock available is for the later listed braces and the most expensive! Still not sure what the differences are however.

I guess it doesn't matter, so long as they fit! :o)

I bought mine second hand, with a view to develop a set of weld on brackets so others could do likewise and save a bit of cash.
However, ive been under the car measuring up for an underfloor crusafix brace, going from the central cover plate out to the front rear subframe mount bolts and rear front subframe mount bolts, with probably then a bar running left to right between the mounts.
Has anyone done this yet, or have any thoughts?
Ta in advance
