MG MGF Technical - Still Have light problem?

I have posted about this before but the the answer didin't help.
I have noticed my light behind the oil indicator dosen't work so i was told to lift out the air vents and you can get to the lamp from that way and replace the lamp, however i have lifted the air vents and hoticed that the clock has a lamp fitted to it but the oil dial dosen't??
Can anyone help?
Also i have noticed that the gater for my gear stick is loose it looks like it has broken away underneath i know it's difficult on a board when you can't see it but i am stuck and it's really annoying that it dosen't look right.
Also does anyone know of a good garage in west yorks who look after MGF's???????

Jeff,

I presume the last post was to avoid you removing the console.

Robs site www.mgf.ultimatemg.com

and Tonys www.apttony.co.uk

are great resources for DIY, and in Robs if you check out Interior in the DIY it has instructions to remove the console.

I'd suggest that that's your only choice. I'm sorry I don't know where the lamp in the oil temp guage is, but if you remove the console the oil and clock are held in with a small plastic plate held in place by screws.

Its fairly simple to the lift out the oil guage and find the lamp I would assume.

be careful when taking out the console as if you damage the sockets into which the wire clips fit or the console will sit out from the dash. Its not too difficult thou

Jeff,

If you have a MY2000 MGF, you need to make sure that the gear stick gaiter is correctly secured into the fake aluminium surround. If it is not, the whole assembly won't locate properly into the console.

It also only fits one way, as the lugs are off-set.

Be careful! The fixing lugs are easily broken.

Hope this helps.

If you have MGF Mark 1 the lamp fitting on the oil gauge is near the top. Unlike the clock it does not push in but unscrews it anti-clockwise 1/4 of a turn or so. There are two wires coming from the back (black and red coloured from memory). I know this as just replaced bulb with LED.

Thanks all should have said it's a mark 1. Julian thanks that expalins why i could pull it out and what are LED's??
do you make it look better?
Brain thanks for the website links they will be usefull i am sure.
Sam thanks but it's not that new maybe my next one will be newer..

LEDs = Light Emitting Diodes. Have a life of 100,000 hours. Total waste of money as bulbs easy to replace anyway but I started replacing some of the existing bulbs with LEDs and ended up doing the lot. Even though white, the LEDS result in a green tint on the dials. Not sure yet whether I like the effect.
