MG MGF Technical - Stuck Bonnet

The bonnet seems tohave stuck, the handle in the boot pulls the cable back but even with pressure on the bonnet and trying to pry open( fingers only) nothing. I can't put a long screwdriver up there to try and release as I have A/C fitted, Thoughts please.

Andrew

I have aircon and had the same problem. Only way I found was to get a small spanner to get to the nuts in the bonnet jam to take the bumper off.

When replacing with a new cable fit TWO cables (the second is a spare attached at the front but not at the back). At the back it is left loose incase the first breaks..:-)

Julian, I like your thought, This is the first problem of opening the bonnet I have had in my F, which I have owned for over ten years.
Andrew Regens

Did not have a broken cable, that was the good news! There is a collar at the end of the cable and sleeve this had become dislodged and jammed the latch.Cured by pushing collar back onto the little bit of metal it was men't to be attached to, after testing many times all seems to be well. My local workshop did the work as I was running out of time and took 1/2 hour, in fact they had never seen this before and as it was a simple fix the really good news NO CHARGE!

You could get a motorcycle cable oiler and fill the cable sleeve with oil as a further precaution.

Anyone figured a solution to shutting ones keys in the boot, other than not doing that :)

even if one can get in the car, there doesnt seem to be a way of reaching the boot release..

security is great isnt it? :)

Yes - make it a personal rule never to open the boot on a locked F; and always have a spare key secreted somewhere unlikely in the cabin.
The peace of mind is worth infinitely more than the cost of another key or the major inconvenience of a lock out!
Likewise, but even more so, I no longer endure the risk of only having one blipper (with key) for the car. The second is always kept away from the car, except when touring.

Yeah i understand, the reason i made the contribution here, is that though i have two remotes and two keys, and have fortunately never locked my keys in the boot, there have been times when i thought thats where they might be, but after maybe twenty minutes searching, discovering that i had just left them, absent minded, distracted by conversation etc etc somewhere close by. During those times, i knew i had the spare set, but they were safe at home... not much good to one, stuck maybe fifty miles away, even if the car is unlocked... you cant open the boot, cant find your keys... maybe your mobile phone, like mine is often in its case, attached to your key chain.. so you cant find your keys, have no mobile...

a hidden set on the car is one solution, but i was just curious about other solutions... short of calling out a locksmith... ( if one has a means to phone :) ) i really would not want to have to go that route, only to discover the keys were not in there...

I loved this! Crazy but I have my very own 67 MGBGT. My dad was a car-a-holic... and European cars were his thing. Mostly, they break down A LOT and are super tempermental! Worse than women, goolood lord! He was so bad he would see "something" under a tarp, in a car port or whatever and he would literally knock on some strangers door & try to buy it. Lol! But anyway, when he passed he had four vehicles. The MG & a 65 GMC Truck, an E Type Jag & the original 70s Austin Mini Cooper he was killed in (sad!). The Jag was sold to pay some things off & the Mini was totaled... so then there were two. My mom & step dad stored both cars for me (since I was 9) and kept them up decently. While they're both sweet rides, as of recently Brandon & I are tiring of paying to store/redo/fix the two of them. So, we're picking to keep the truck for various reasons. The main one being I have the most memories in it. That means the GT needs a HOME! Trying to sell her... tell Pops to come to WA & I'll give him a KILLER deal. :) Mine is in great shape, black on black, stored inside/covered for the past 13 yrs... those cars are so fickle. :) Cars hold some good memories, for sure! I always chuckle when I see a British car on the side of the road! ;)
