MG MGF Technical - Stuck in 3rd...:(

Unhooked the trickle charger and took the wee one out for a blast the other day just to blow out the cobwebs, shine up the disks, and keep her in good shape... Everything was going perfectly until changing from 3rd to 4th... when she just jammed in 3rd! Now the stick is all over the place...:(

It looks like one of the cables has snapped!

I searched the archives... please any advice would be much appreciated... Who would be best to look at it in the Wycombe area? From the archives this looks like a he*l of a job, are there any shortcuts when replacing these cables?

The experts will help soon RichieR,
But there is a pin at the bottom of the lever that might be missing.

Jack her up and take a look.

I don't like the garage in your hometown (I'm in Marlow).., because they will happily sting you..
-- I got quote £140 for rear brake pads (yes pads, not discs)

Platts in Marlow are good, but not MGF specialists.

If it is the pin, then it should be okay for you to sort.
If its the box / linkage, then Mike Satur does a lovely Slick Shift 4 kit.. ;-)

RichieR,

It's not a hell of a job as MGR describes it. It's most likely a snapped lower gearbox cable (the shorter one). £60 for the part.

Check Rob Bell's webpage for instructions on Do It Yourself.

Valter.

Ritchie - Best place in the Wycombe area is Summit Motors in Maidenhead. Phone no 01628 636001. Web address is : www.summitmg.co.uk

They know what they are doing with the F and prices are not main dealer ones. I agree with Neil on the garage in Wycombe.

Priests of Chesham are a good MGR dealer in Bucks.
Dave Livingstone

Ah! Thanks for that Alan.., I need a decent MG one too!
