Thanks.

Not me, but these, or similar, are regularly advertised for sale on E Bay for a very small amount of money. Most advertise 15 - 20bhp increase, at what cost (mpg maybe) I don't know. I am sure the experts will be along soon for a read and worthwile comment.

Nope, don't buy one- The ones on EBAY are a resistor in a box (6p to you from maplin) this is a variable resistor with a knob, so a little more for your money, you might be getting £1 worth of stuff. Power wise it will not help. Tricking the ECU to throw in more petrol will not give you more power unless something is wrong with the ECU and even then the benifit would be much better by just fixinging whatever is wrong.

Petrol itself does not give you power, you need air too, and the only way to get more air in is to fit a compressor or smooth the airflow into the chamber.

Will,
Just for knowledge, I have seen some advertised as a chip replacement, same claim etc.
Just take yours out and swop them over, 5 minute job it says, what's the score on that ?

I well remember Dirk of Luxembourg fitting a 'chip' and the next thing we know is he has an engine meltdown - and I kid you not - might be in the archives but I am talking about '97/'98.

Yes, those were the days Ted ;O) ! Just wonder how it went on with Dirk and his BMW... Althou the debate climate was a bit hot here at times it would be nice to hear from some of those early "F"-ers that moved on to other cars. Maybee not as rose-tinted as they hoped for ?
My own "Green Frog" now has the belts renewed together with Mike“s cambolts etc.
Compared to a cambelt change on any other car that I have made during the years it really was a pain in the ar¤¤ ! No way it can be done with "Mickey Mouse" tools. Every socket / extension/handle has to be carefully choosen because of total lack of workspace.
Not mentioned in the manual but wise to do= Remove the coolant reservoair to get more space.
And don“t forget the gloves! At work I was asked if I had tried to give our cat a bath... / Carl.

Ooops ! Nearly forgot the thread item !!
Stay well clear of any such gadget on an ordinary aspirated (non-turbo) engine. Not worth the money, and as stated can also be a threat to the engine as in Dirk“s case. Money better spent on those things as airfilter/box ,brakepads etc. Loads in the archive about this. / Carl.

Thanks Carl/Ted,
I wasn't going there anyway, just a nice to know. Hope others read that.
