MG MGF Technical - Sway bar replacement?

Hi All,

Just sent my 99 F in for a service. I've asked them to replce the timing belt, tensioner and "serprent" belt as theya re all getting old and cracked. Better safe than sorry.

I had a HGF about 2 years ago which was fixed under extended warranty. They also replaced the water pump which apparently has failed again and needs replacement. Bit dissapointing after only 2 years and 30,000 kms. Is that normal?

Anyway, apparently my sway bar and bushes also need replacement. Not sure what they are or what the consequences are if I don't get them replaced. Can someone point me in the right direction to read a little bit about them?

Thanks

Sonny

www.mgfcar.de and keywords *bushes* / *compliance washer* / tie-bar and a look up in the the archives of course.

Have a good read.

Good night (1:30 am here) :)

In addition to Dieter's excellent instructions, here's Colin's story: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/suspension/ARB_bush_replacement.htm

Good luck Sonny :o)

Can someone tell me, What are the dimensions of the "compliance washers"?

And why are they called "compliance" washers?
What are they complying to?

Ok, time to call it a night...... :-)

Branko

"Compliance washers" are not a good name - but they fit into the compliance bush, removing the 'compliance' - some pix here: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/suspension/suspension_images/upgrading_bushes.htm

Sorry, I don't have dimensions handy, but making your own should be pretty straightforward: the diameter is the same as the bush, and I presume that the spacer's thickness is about the same as the 'gap' in the compliance bush...

Branko,
the washers name IMO goes back on early setups for MGF Cup Cars.

Look at the drawing on the bottom of that site to see a draft supplied by someone at this BBS, couple of years ago.
The cut text on the bottom of the image was read *deregulation* .... :)

Dieter

Sonny,
sorry to have hijacked your thread :-)
Please forgive....

Rob, Dieter, thanks again for your helpful advice.

I will try and make these myself.
Just need to visit the local plastics factory and rumage thru their offcuts bin.

Cheers.
