MG MGF Technical - Techspeed Servicing

Hi everyone.

This is my first post but I have browsed the forum for a couple of months.

Techspeed near Warwick seems to be rated highly by you guys. After a bad experience at my local MGR dealer (high cost/poor customer service) I'd like to take my TF135 to Techspeed for routine servicing - they're only 20 minutes away. However, I've got about 18 months MGR warranty left. I'm worried that I'll invalidate the cover by going to Techspeed. I read somewhere that the EU were forcing car manufacturers to stop this uncompetetive practice but I've haven't seen anything since. Can anyone advise?
R Thompson

I have used Techspeed for lots of non-servicing work and can highly recommend them (they are only 5 mins from me ;) )
Out of interest, which dealer did you have the problem with?
Hope its not the same one I am currently waiting for to get back to me about some warranty issues :(
The way I understood it, you can have your car serviced anywher so long as it is done to the manufacturers specs and only manufacturers approved parts are used.
The down side is you will not get a dealer stamp in the handbook.

No but you get one that says Techspeed Motorsport, way cooler ;)

I cannot speak for the warranty issue but can add to the good words you have already heard. They are the nearest specialist to me so they were my 1st choice. I have had nothing but good friendly service from them and will always go back where possible (in fact I'm back there soon for a brake upgrade).

Thanks fellas,

The MGR dealer concerned was located in Leicester. One of the top five 'nationals'. I got what I thought was a good deal when purchasing the car but they seem to want to recover some of their extra 'discount' via overpriced servicing and repair. Repeated visits were required to sort out some fairly simple warranty items.

With only one more Service due to be carried out within the Warranty (Two Year ), then I would use an MGR Dealer. The little extra cost could pay big dividends if you had any subsequent problems.

There are Dealers in Coventry and Leamington however my car goes to Edwards in Stratford where I get excellent service.

Not sure about warranty issues apart from 3rd party warranties which allow the car to serviced by anyone who is VAT registered.

As for Techspeed I have been using them for nearly 4 years and keep going back due to there excellent service and good quality low cost work even though it is over a 200 hundred mile round trip.

Before I ring them does anyone know if they have testbook facilities, gonna need a throttle body setup soon. ;-)
Phil Brindley - Leicester

RT DO NOT go to the one in Hickley, Sal had loads of problems with them.

Me too! Ouch! 200 miles... yup, I do the same. Says something about their service doesn't it?

Phil, TS don't (or didn't) have access to Testbook. Not found this to be a problem for me - but there is no reason why you couldn't take your car periodically to a specialist else where to get MEMS error codes read? I gather the MGFC (for those of you based in the Midlands) has Testbook...

aaah nuts, was hoping to sneak a 52mm throttle body in before the RR day. Guess I can just get a dealer to set that up for me can't I. Wasn't going to bother but after all the talk of it the various forums I think I had better get it done properly.
Phil Brindley - Leicester

I don't think that there is any setup required for a 52mm TB. I just fitted mine, re-set the stepper and went for a drive. 30mins from start to finish.

Go for it!

See Scarlet's thread on mg-rover.org http://www.forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?t=38348

The setup's not for normal running so much as idling.
Phil Brindley - Leicester

Phil, no harm fitting the 52mm TB now, and getting the idle screw adjusted at a later date. Problems only occur when the set screw has been set too far out of range for the IACV to compensate for.
Rob Bell

Good point Rob, have a dealer up the road from work though so should be easy to get sorted.

Apologies to R Thompson for hijacking your thread,

TECHSPEED ARE GOOD, Discuss! ;)
Phil Brindley - Leicester

Phil, if you haven't already, invest in some ratchet spanners. They making fitting the TB a lot easier :)
Can bring mine to the next meet if you want to do it then?
Steve White

Can only add I did a round trip for my TF of over 200 miles to get the MGS&R springs fitted. Great service and sensible prices.
