MG MGF Technical - temp gauge straight to red

hi,

this morning when I started my F , the temp gauge went straight to red, I am assuming that somehing is up with the sensor, but after reading various threads cannot work out which one it is that I need to change or look at? Does anybody know which one to look at, is it the one down by the exhaust manifold?

Also is it easy to change? any pointers?

Many Thanks

Prob not the sensor, prob the wire feeding it has shorted somewhere.

Sensor is either black or blue, on the gearbox end of the engine, attached to the pipe next to the exaust manifold.

Disconnect by squeezing the plug and pulling - if the gauge still reads red then you'r problem is elsewhere - wobble wires untill you see the gauge bounce.

I had a similar problem, down to a short in the harness near the cental vents on the dashboard, I cann't be more specific as it was a warranty(sp) job.

I had the same problem two weeks ago. Turned ot to be the sensor. There are two sensors there, The one you can see from the engine bay cover is NOT the one you want. It's the one directly below it facing the floor, a complete b@gg3* to change, if it is the sensor.
