MG MGF Technical - TF cooling system upgrade on an F

I recall there being a thread, at some point in the dim & distant past, about retro fitting the TF's remote thermostat housing on an F. I can't find it though :-(.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? A link would be really useful.

Thanks,
Steve

Steve, it was her on Rob's site at http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/hgf_pages/cooling_system_modifications.htm but this seems to be one of the casualties of his recent site rebuild and rehost.

Maybe Rob can point to an alternative for this page?

Steve,

I've had the latest PRT thermostat retrofitted to my F. What did you want to know?

Dave.

Would think EVERYONE on here would like to know, not just steve.
Whats involved, what cost, is it a DIY job, and most important Does it work ( please say yes :o) )
Mark.L

I wrote it all up for Safety Fast a few months ago. I can email you a copy of the article if you like.

Essentially, yes it works and yes it is straightforward enough for DIY, although I let Techspeed pioneer it for me :-) The problem is getting the parts. I know that people have tried to get them through the dealers as spares, but without much luck - hence the actual cost is unknown. Labour would probably be about 2 hours.

btw also got my xp pc to run out of virtual memory manipulating some piccies in psp

Thanks to all who've responded.

The information is for someone else who's considering the upgrade so think he want's all the info he can lay his hands on.

Thanks again,
Steve

Dave,

Is the PRT stat upgrade as good/better/worse than someting like the Elsie parts remote stat kit?

Was that something you considered at all?

Kevin,

>>Is the PRT stat upgrade as good/better/worse than someting like the Elsie parts remote stat kit?

Who knows? The basis for me doing it was very simple.

Land Rover first introduced the PRT on the K series. MGR followed suit from Jan 2004. I suspect that neither manufacturer would bother to change production lines without a very good reason. HGF failures sounds like a good reason to me - I've had two on my F. Will it prevent a third? Well, of course, there's no answer to that one. There are also many reasons for HGF - my first, I think, was down to liner heights. Neverthless, the cooling system is a critical factor and I just felt it worthwhile to be up with the latest 'factory mods'.
