MG MGF Technical - TF side vent removal

I'm sitting with a bright mesh replacement for the black plastic stuff for the wife's TF. The back bit's easy, the front bumper looks no more difficult than the F.

But just how do you get the side pods out?

David Dewick

Angle grinder?

Okay..... not a very sensible idea - sorry. I was wondering about this the other day..... Come on - anyone know? :)
Paul Lathwell

Not obvious is it?!

As I understand it...

Put protective tape on body adjacent to top edge of vent to protect paintwork. Put flat bladed screwdriver into the centre of the top edge and (lever to) release vent. The vent is held in place by adhesive tape. Release from tape and remove vent. I assume reassembly requires new adhesive tape (double sided?).

I intended to buy some SS woven mesh and replace the chicken mesh but never got round to it - yet.

"flat bladed screwdriver" I guess should read 'thin flad blade' to redudce risk of damage.

As it happens I've just got to go up to Wakefield tomorrow to see a man about a maintenance management system I'm interested in. As the venerable Mr Satur's establishment is not far out of the way on the journey back, I think I'll drop in and seek the expert's advice.
David Dewick

Dave, pop in will show you how to remove vents, no tools required, watch out for tealeafs;-)
see ya.
Mike.

Mike

I think you were a bit busy when I called, but I got the info I needed.

Ian

Apparently, there are clips similar to those that hold the console in place, just a question of levering the vent frame out with a wide, flat implement. Just hope it doesn't rain during the weekend, and I've lost enough weight to get under the front bumper without needing to buy a trolley jack!!

If I can "borrow" the works digital camera, I'll take some pics as I go.

If you do I may well be interested in using them for the MGF/TF FAQ if you are interested? Particulary if you can make any notes of how it's done etc. ;-)

Took all afternoon, but it's done. On an X-Power grey machine, the effects are, perhaps, more subtle, but certainly better than the black stuff.

Paul, I'll make some notes and transfer the pictures off the camers when the other half lets me get back onto my computer.
