MG MGF Technical - TF Sindscreen Seal

Hi,

Just got back from my dealer today, my TF has been in for the second time to get the windscreen seals looked at.

I'm talking about the rubber seal that goes right around the outside of the windscreen frame and seals up with the roof, windows etc.

The problem I have is that the rubber seal is coming away from the windscreen frame around about where the wingmirrors touch the seal when the doors are closed(Both Sides). There appears to be some kind of bonding glue stuff that is supposed to hold the seal on, but its not doing the job and I keep having to push it back into place against the frame, which lasts for a few minuites if that!!

This is the second time that my TF has been back for this, each time they try an stick it back, but each time it comes away again!!!

The dealer is being good about this, but I just want it sorted. They say the only other thing they can do in replace the entire rubber seal around the windscreen, but they warn that this may not be as good a fit as the current one??!?!

So, my questions to you lovely knowledgable people are:

1) Have you come across this before?(I have seen a number of TF's with the same thing).

2) What is the best way to solve this!

3) Will replacing the whole seal really be a bad idea?

4) Is this just a TF thing and I am being too fussy?

I just need some advice/ideas before I take it back to the dealer - help!

Cheers,

Obviously the subject should read Windscreen, not Sindscreen!!!

Serves me right for typing and eating a sandwich!

I had this problem on my F, and was caused by the garage adjusting the windows to stop a leak. You will probably find that the window is pushing on the seal when you close the door, and this puts pressure on the seal where it meets the metal surrounding the windscreen. I tried sealing it myself with silicone sealant, and in the end, I filled it with sealant and left it as neat as possible. The alternative was to adjust the window so that it did not put so much pressure on the seal.

Yep, I had that too, eventually adjusted the windows myself and it's fine now

Hi,

Thanks for the replies, trying to get any information on this is proving very hard, even from the Dealer!!

Keith, how did you adjust the windows, what did you do? Didnt it change the effectivness of the seals around the windows??

Any more info I can fire at me Dealer would be very helpfull!!!

Follow the instructions on Dieters excellent site :

http://www.lame-delegation.de/mgf-net.de/adjust/

There are a couple of bolts labelled A & B that move the windows in and out. Be careful playing with Window adjusting though.......
