MG MGF Technical - TF115 engine oil consuption

I've run for only 3500 km and my car has "ate" 0,5kg of oil. Is it a normal happening or not?
cnerone

When I picked my TF160 up from the dealers he advised that I 'keep an eye on the oil level for the first thousand miles'. It seems the K series can use a lot of oil while its 'running in'.

I havn't had to put a drop in since I picked it up (5500 miles). I did have a full oil/filter change at 3000 though as I didn't want the the same oil in there for a whole year while running in.

Make sure that you have the correct oil in the car, semi synthetic or mineral (NOT Fully synthetic) The engine needs upto 10K before using full synthetic.

I have to see, how to see? I have the oil that MG fitted in it before purchising.

Where do you read that it needs not fully synthetic oil since 10k?
I want to speak about it to my MG-Rover workshop (they know this thing or not?)

is this a typical mgf/tf feature or it is a feature that have all mg and rover cars, or all cars in the world?
cnerone

All K series engines use some oil when new. Using Synthetic oil will slow down the bedding in process of the engine components.

Just accept that for the fist 10000 miles, oil will be consumed. Why do you need Synthetic oil anyway? MG F & TFs are not turbocharged, Save your money and use good quality oil as advised in the handbook and change frequently.

how much frequently? much more than ownerbook advises?
cnerone

cnerone...did you get all info that you needed from Mike Satur last week (when we had Public Holiday in UK)?

If you use synthetic oil before 10k miles, it will not allow the engine to be run in properly, and it is a good idea to change the oil every six months, otherwise you may get problems with your Cam followers/tappets.

Steve, thanks

Blue Max,
I sent a fax by I have received no answer. But my mail server had several problems in last week (I received a lot of empty messages) so I don't know if Mike Satur answered to me or not. Yesterday I sent email again telling he about these mail problem. So I wait for some other days.

If I'll receive no communications I ask you to contact he and ask for my questions.

Thanks
cnerone
