MG MGF Technical - Thermostat help

Looking for a quick and easy way to get in at the thermostat , dont need to change it , just need to tighten one of the bolts , can reach 2 but gave up on the 3rd so looks like taking bits off to get access.

Was considering removing the manifold and all the associated stuff above it - I have all day to do it - what do you think? a bit of overkill for a single bolt ? could I be opening a can of worms removing said manifold ?

Looking at Dieters site he says 10mm bolts and Will Munns says 8mm ? ? ?

Removing the inlet manifold is probably the best approach. Not sure of the sizes - I can't recall off the top of my head...

10mm bolts for the top of the manifold and 8mm bolts for the bottom, I used a 1/4 inch ratchet with various extension lengths going in from the boot entrance, you will have to remove the expansion tank and undo the bolt holding the oil filler tube to get at them.
Be careful to tighten the bolts on the thermostat housing only to the specified torque otherwise its easy to pull the helicoils out and that will mean a new thermostat housing!! (talking from experience lol).

get a good 8mm ratchet spanner from halfords and use that. don't remove the inlet manifold unless you enjoy pain.

The 8mm screws are the ones for the thermostat, the manifold uses 13mm nuts on studs, but in the early days used 10mm headed bolts.

Really - the thermostat is a pain especially given the lack of visual location - but removing the inlet manifold is a whole world of pain
Will Munns

Yup, the lower manifold bolts are particularly entertaining to get at in the confines of the MGF's engine bay... ;o)

Thanks guys but the TF has now been sold.
