MG MGF Technical - Throttle Body

I have a UK spec 2002 MGF MPi which was imported from Belgium.

It looks like it has an alloy throttle body.

Is this correct?

Sam,
I think it is correct - a 48mm alloy throttle body replaced the 48mm plastic throttle body on later Fs. If you have the 52mm alloy throtle body then this is not correct as a standard fitment, but a nice upgrade!

Thanks Jason.

It's on my shopping list.

Before you splash the cash on the 52mm TB a recent RR test showed the larger TB had little/no effect on an MPi. I would use the £100 to buy something else, there's a lot to choose from.....

Since having a DVA flowed head with new cams my engine now flows more air than a VVC so at last the TB is doing its job :0) Quite an expensive way to ensure the TB is beneficial to the engine performance.

The 52mm TB can be identified as it has the numerals "52" in a circle embosed upon it - but is unfortunately tucked away adjacent to the inlet manifold...

More than likely, you've got the 48mm TB, Sam.

Thanks for the advice chaps.

Do I hear the "Darek Side" whispering?

Sam,
BY a nice upgrade, I meant it was nice if you already have a 52mm TB. If you have an allopy 48mm TB on an mpi then I am not sure how much benefit you would get from the upgrade without other mods to take advantage of the better airflow.
The force of the darkside is powerful and it sounds as thought it will not be long before you become weak!

Your car has Cams and gas flow. Have you had a new engine management system fitted. MEMS is only good for about + 30 BHP
Pete

Pete,

The flowing work should account for somewhere near 160 BHP compared to the factory figure of 118, so a 42bhp hike on the original (not bad). Admittedly the MEMS would not cope at all if the standard pulleys are retained, however, with piper verniers (correctly timed) the car runs perfectly. Certainly saves a whole heap of cash not needing the Emerald ECU.

The car is on the Rolling Road in May, so should have an accurate figure then.
