MG MGF Technical - Time to install a new 4-2-1 manifold

Hi
Do you know how many hours (minutes i would prefer) it will take to install a new 4-2-1 manifold from Mike satur and do i need to change for a new one the manifold gasket who is between the engine and the manifold or could i use the old one.
thanks for the reply
regards

I would think you will need a new gasket as the old one will tear when you try and remove the original manifold. Let us now how the engine feels when it's fitted.
Andrew W Regens

or if it doesn't tear just use some high temp silastic to ensure an excellent seal. In fact you could do away with the gasket altogether and use HTS if the faces are in good order.

Not a quick job I'm afraid. You need to take the lamda sensor out of your old manifold and fit it to the 4-2-1.
The 4-2-1 being one long piece of manifold and pipes and a small flexi section rather than a small manifold and separate pipe is a lot harder to squeeze in, you will have to remove an engine mounting bolt to get enough gap. Then the mounting brackets may need to be bent to get the 4-2-1 into position so it fits and seals.

hi again
thanks for the reply
an other question, do i need to change the lambda probe for a new one or could i keep mine if i change the manifold 4-2-1 from mike.

I would say the same Lambda prope should be ok, just the matter of a straight swap over as the manifold was made for an F so allowances should have been made for it.
Andrew W Regens

Yes you put the old lambda probe in the new 4-2-1.

Of course to get the full benefit of the 4-2-1 you should have a performance back box fitted and maybe a sports cat. That will get the air moving out of the engine, but a peformance air filter and maybe 52mm throttle body will get the air in quicker. Then to get the flow of air swirling the right way, porting the 4-2-1 and inlet manifold to match the head and flowing the head itself ..........

...with the extra power you should really get your suspension and brakes sorted.....

You are on the slippery slope down into the darkside !!!
Jon Baker

Also you need to take the air filter out to fit it easily. Manifold's performance gain is noticable and i am sure you will love it. I have the MGF Centre one, and i would buy a manifold just for the noise.

@ Jon : i already have the K&N+52mm throtle body+milltek gran tourismo, i will wait for the sport cat later (when i can find one on ebay for a good price), for the brake i just bought some redstuff (i was torn between the big brake kit and some hard pad like redstuff, i already have the greenstuff but i think it's not enough for the mountain, on the normal road it's perfect, i was lost after what i did read on the bbs about the big brake mistake), for the suspension i will also wait for some sparx.
i am (unfortunatly for my family) already in the darkside and i begin to arrive in the darkness....
ps : sorry for my english, it is not my mother tongue, so forgive me for the mistake.
see you
pascandrea

pascandrea, you certainly are !

The 4-2-1 is certainly worth adding to your mods.
Jon Baker

@ Jon : did you install the 4-2-1 on yours ?
please send me an email there (pascandrea@bluewin.ch) to talk about that.
thanks again
see you
pascandrea

No I didn't but I heard all about how hard it was from the garage that did. I did take it off myself though when recovering the performance bits to put on the replacement F but I left the refitting to Mike Satur.
