MG MGF Technical - Tow an MGF to the workshop?

I have to get the MGF to the workshop 4km away and should preferably no drive it (HGF). There has been a lot of talk about towing things with the MGF,
but how about towing the MGF to the workshop? Can that be done using the front towing lashes without warping the frame?

Cheers

The front lashing eye is strictly for tying down not towing. Having said that it is attached to the subframe so should be strong enough to tow, provided you are careful to move off gradually.

The eye is pressed steel and might cut through a bare rope, so use a shackle to connect the two.

Be prepared for the steering and brakes to be heavy because assistance will not work.

Hmm I thought you were realy not ment to. If we tow just very very slowly it may be ok.

Is there only one point to attach to or are there more lashing eyes that you can spread the load to? (The car is in another part of the country, so I can't check myself)

You should be able to just slide a rope through the towing eye and attach it to the subframe, that will spread the load. The wishbone is probably the most accessible, mind the sharp edges...

Yes, there are two lashing points on the front. I have had an F towed a couple of miles by the RAC to a safe point prior to it being loaded onto a slide & tilt truck. They used a rigid bar that connected to the 2 lashing points.

It worked out ok as far as I can see. I attached one towing line between the two lashing points, and then attached the middle of that line with another to the towing car. That spread the load at least a bit.

Who is going to do the dirtywork ? Trying the LandRover set-up ? Hope you caught it in time and avoided a warped head... / Carl.
