The Bridgestone S-02 remains, for me, the best tyre ever available for the MGF. They're still available so long as you are prepared to use 205 section tyres on 16" rims.

After that, then the S-03 deserves a look, although they've not got the legendary reputation of the S-02, and after that, the Goodyear F1, and IMO, the GS-D3 is the superior to the GS-D2...

Following on from these, then you're looking at Toyo T1-S or the new T1-R, and then the Bridgestone RE720 and Pirelli P7000...

I've always wanted to give the Pirelli P Zero a go - but they are seriously expensive.

Where does the Continental sit in the above group? No idea, but car magazine tyre tests (such as those that appear in Autocar etc) put the conti some way behind Bridgestone and Goodyear...

define 'best'
Tyres are always a compromise between grip, longevity, cost, predictability, even looks.
What's best for one car / one person isn't best elsewhere.

For me, predictability is top of the list - well above cost, even above outright grip. Finding out what is 'predictable' for your car though is rather difficult to ... er .. predict !
I'm on Bridgestone RE720s and have raved about them ever since first fitting them - but I haven't tried the Toyos.
Steve

I've got Continentals (Contact Sport 2 I think) on my ZR and I don't like them at all. Very poor in the wet. I'm on my second set of Toyos.

Hey Darren

I've recently fitted Goodyear F1 GS-D3's all round and I'm impressed. Good grip in corners, wet & dry with mean looks!

Previously I've had Dunlop 900 & 9000's fitted to my F, but the F1's are better!

Admittingly, I currently have 16" rims with slightly lowered ride height, so it's a tad bumpy.

Alternatively, I'll recommend Bridgestone SO2's - as per Rob's advice above. I've had these on various cars before and can highly recommend them.

Good luck with your final choice - remember, if it's only £10 per tyre more and you can aford it, spend it! It's most likely worth it!

The Contis are OEM fit on 15" on non-160 new TFs. So far, in 6500 miles, I've had no problems at all on a TF135. That included chasing around Scotland behind DC and around Wales behind DCM.

Previous F had F1s and then TOYOs. F1 was great but I found TOYO every bit as good in all conditions - subject to my driving as though I intended to stay alive.

I'm on Bridgestone RE720s all round and am extremely happy with them. One feature I like is that they have a "rim protector" which protrudes out over the rim to help protect against scuffing. IMO, they look pretty good too! They also handle very well, particularly in the wet where they seem to 'suck' onto the road.

As with most tyres, they need a couple of hundred miles to scuff in, but once they have they're great!

You can use 195/50 front, but mixing that with 185/55s on the rear is a bad idea! Better with the contis in the correct sizes Darren! :o)
Rob Bell

what they cant have just pure jealous thats all

DARREN

Nobody else got Avons on their F/TF? I have ZV1's on the rear and ZV3's on the front (mainly because the ZV1's were not available when I had to do the front tyres) They seem to be stuck to the road even in the wet.
