MG MGF Technical - TT Mk 4 Development

You know that it is my aim to develope the ultimate sports exhaust for the MGF and TF. I thought I had done it with the Mk3 but it's a never ending process, an itch that wont stop itching.

This is a working prototype of what MIGHT turn into the TT Mk4. What do you guys think? Very shiny eh?

YES pls note that those are finishers. I am testing these special items also. Not just for useless ornamentation, but for a slight reduction in the volume of the exhausts: pending test results. They are easily fitted AND removed and shouldn't interfere with the gasflow of the exhaust too much. hmmmm I am not certain though what do you guys think? They will protrude from the rear bumper of the car a tad and should also delete any perception of drone, projecting the sound backwards. As you know I dont think they are entirely necessary but the market dictates and I won't fit them unless they do something useful.

Prefer the bluntness of my mark II to be honest Neil.
Martin

yes Martin, I have to say that I do too! Also as the pipes are already 57mm as opposed to the usual 35mm the finishers are going to look really large.

Neil

Neil, I'm curious about the mark III though. I've not been on here for some time. What changes have you made? My MK II cracked where the hanger is but has been fine since having it welded so I assume that weakness has been overcome.

Hi Neil,

Looks stunning! :)

I am in the market for a good s/s exhaust and having been an MGF owner for a while I have read all about the ear splitting nature of the TT's. :p

I am however looking for something not too loud as with a 4-2-1 manifold and poss decat, they get louder don't they? So with your new design/finishers will it be quiet enough not to be a baby-waker, piss off the neighbours etc? Something along the lines of the Daytona/Scorpion?

Incidentally, I saw another thread where you were asking for a MK2 Cat to aid development. I have one you would be welcome to use as long as it is not damaged as it is my current cat. Unfortunately it is attached to the car but the car is essentially in bits and off the road so you'd be welcome to borrow it.

Let me know, cheers,

Nick

Hi Martin

Yes I altered the design of the Mk2 the hangers were reverted back to the original Mk1 design. The hangers were the main reason why I gave up on that manufacturer.

I suggested to Neil a cunning design idea for TT Mk5... You'll absolutely love it, but whether it could be made for reasonable money? Over to Surrey Labs...
Rob Bell

Rob... I'm all ears!? Sounds intriguing. (Prob why I don't want it too loud!) :p
Nick Atkins

Hi there
sorry been distracted
The cunning plan to reduce sound didnt work unfortunatley. But something else did.

No Cat = properly loud as it is on Red 19
Cat in place = a huge reduction in volume, like quantum!

Easy solution. If you want it quieter shove the cat back in place it'll be greener too.

2 TT Mk3s left for sale.
1 exhibition piece
1 Std Mk3 but its the only one with a Mk4 Mod to the welds.

Christmas is coming and these are both one offs
So treat yourself or somebody you love
Neil

Nick, the idea involves a valve in the exhaust that either channels gases straight out or via the silencer. Loud versus quiet, all at the flick of a switch, should you fancy ;o)
