MG MGF Technical - Tyres 15'

In need of some new tyres and am looking to getting some Toyo T1R's. BUT, wont need any for the front which are still on the original set of conti's whereas this will be the third set for the back!

Anyway, remember reading that I should keep all tyres the same or is this just for the same axle?

It is best if all are changed but there has been a lot written by people who have different makes front to rear. I don't think you will have a problem as the better tyres are on the rear.

Hi John,

I can definately recommend the Toyos, loads of grip for the 15" wheels. I ran mine with Toyos on the front and Goodyears on the rear for several months without any problems. Even took it for a chuck-a-thon round North Weald airfield and it gripped well. You shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks both, I'll go ahead and get a price. Just with the fronts hardly getting any wear, its a same to waste them and the second set now on the back are getting a bit desperate. Mind you, two sets and 38,000 miles isn't so bad I suppose.

That's good, I've the opposite happening on mine, front inner tyre wear is driving me mad, got to get it sorted asap. As a guide I pay £55 front and £60 rear fitted for my Toyos. That's 185 front and 205 rear on my 15" wheels.

Not been to my local (in that its near work!) tyre place yet, been on leave this week. Had a quick look on the internet and am looking at £50 each, so if they quote me £60ish fitted each would be a good £30/40 cheaper for the pair. Brilliant.

I remember having to get a new front a week into owning the car and I'm sure they charged me more for the from which I put down to its size!

Sorry to hear about your fronts, sounds like the trackings off. Hope you get it sorted.

and/or the ride height's too low. Check the ride height first, then the tracking. I had 70k miles off the last set of fronts. Had the Hydragas pumped up twice in four years but I've never checked the tracking.

John, have a look at etyres.co.uk - I can recommend them, they come to you.

I'm having a set of rear Toyos fitted tomorrow, £125.80 all in.

Paul Bevan

i got a great deal from blackcircles - i did email them for their 'best prices' though, and they came back with improved prices over the net prices.

"Regarding the Toyos, I can offer the following prices;

2 X 195/50R15 82V TOYO PROXES T1-R £80.00

2 X 205/50R15 89V R/F TOYO PROXES T1-R £115.00

TOTAL £ 195.00 fully fitted"

they were fitted locally - ironically at a tyre centre who had previously quoted me over £300 for the same tyres..

Just been to my 'local' tyre place and they quoted £67 each (fitted). I'll see how much it will be just to fit as I'm sure I found them somewhere on the internet for £98 a pair of 205. Failing that I'll go with etyres dependant on how guilty I feel as I park facing the tyre place everyday!!

Thanks all.

ps. How hard can it be to get new tyres? If the fronts weren't so good still, I'd gone with Mike's place at £195 all in which is just £35 more than I last paid for a pair of Conti's ....damn those fronts.

John,

just to clear up any potential confusion, if indeed there is any..

blackcircles.com are an internet retailer - in the same manner as etyres, and will ship the tyres to a fitting centre local to you, the fitting costs are inclusive, and are arranged between blackcircles and the fitting centre.

cheers
