MG MGF Technical - Tyres

I'm about to change the rear and front tyres on my MGF. Some people suggested to replace them with either "Goodyear F1" or "Toyo T1 Proxes". Does someone have any experience with these tyres? Any other brand recommendation is welcome!
Freek

We Just replaced the tyres on ours from the originals to Yokohamas as that was what was reccomended by the MG Service centre which is the closest specialist MGF dealer to us.

They are cheap too, they have two types one that is alot grippier but is lots dearer and only last 70% of the time and the oens we bought.

Compared to the stock tyres theres a large improvement(needed replacing anyway but final straw was when Dad spun it in the wet) so were more than happy with them
Paul

Don't replace just the fronts or you will spend all your time driving backwards

Have to say that the F1's are excellent, both in wet and dry conditions. Fully recommended and lasted about 17,000 miles on my VVC.

Have no experience of the Toyos, but by all accounts they are a decent tyre if you don't want to pay the cost of the F1's.

Chris

Do the F1's work as well on std VVC 15" wheels? Are they even available?
JohnP

My std VVC 15" wheels have F1s fitted and the improvement over the previous NCT3s is huge.

I am changing the rears to Goodyear Venturas tomorrow as the NCTs have about 2mm left and are lethal in the wet. The front already has Venturas and they seem pretty good. The backs cost about £75 eahc fitted.

Steve,

Don't know where the Venturas fit into the GY product line-up, but I got my 215 40 16 F1's for £73 each, fitted from Bathwick tyres.

Both the Goodyear F1 and the Toyo T1 are excellent tyres - you'll not go wrong with either.

My preference would be for the latest version - the GS-D3 - of the Goodyear F1. Saw a set on an MGF over the weekend (met up with Dieter and friends on the Our river on the Luxembourg/German boarder). They look most impressive - and to my suprise, the side walls look almost identical to the Bridgestone S-02s that I love so much on my car. Certainly the owner of said MGF was more than delighted with them...

What's wrong with Michelin tyres?

Toyo Proxes t1-s are amazingly cheap at www.mytyres.net £30 each inc. delivery for mine. But the downside is you'll have to get somewhere to fit them.

>>What's wrong with Michelin tyres? <<

Nothing - except I haven't heard much about them on MGFs, and they seem to only perform averagely in independent tyre tests, Kryn.

Rob - sounds like a brilliant deal there. :o)
Rob Bell

Independent tyre tests? Well Rob I've read them all, and most of the time they contradict each other, even with the Goodyear NCT's. I've ben a Michelin fan all my life, but Toyo's are tempting because they are cheaper, but these tests say that they make a lot more noise than Michelins. My MG dealer incidentally, prefers Klebers. Does anyone have experience with Klebers?
