MG MGF Technical - Un-sticky Hood bit!

Hello people.

Was driving along yesterday and heard a massive ripping noise! Thought something had hit the hood and gone through.

But turns out to be that the hood fabric has come un-stuck from the cross bar just above my head.

What can I use to stick it down? I have some 3M double sided tape, or should i use fabric glue?

Edd :)

Now that's a problem that I've not come across before Ed!!!

Is this a standard MG hood, or an aftermarket replacement?

I think that the answer is glue - BAS (tel: 01633 873664), the guys that do the warranty work on MG hoods are going to be the best people to talk to regarding affecting an effective repair.

Wow, am I the first and unique! woohoo.

Yup its a standard hood, coming on for 8 years old now! I keep the car outside under a MS hood cover thing, so i guess its just getting really hot during the day and then cold at night, so it must have affected it somehow.

Cool, I'll try those guys, thankyou :)

Edd,
Can you please post and let us know how you get on as the fabric on my hood has come away from the cross member some time ago and have just lived with it, but would like to know of an appropriate glue so that I can re-attach it .
Thanks,
Phil

Unfortunately you aren't ;-)
Someone in DE had the same recently.
He had a visit to an upholsterer who adhered it back on with *Pattex* (Henkel). Not availiable in the UK. Anyway, there will be similar glue for fabric.
Applied on both parts, let it dry and put together with high force.
I'd recommend to go to a specialist. At last you'll have someone where to complain if it wasn't reliable ;)

I had this on my old F - I used normal Bostik from Homebase and it seemed to do the trick! All I did was rough up the paint on the bar with some course sandpaper to give the glue a key.

Cheers,
Tim.
