MG MGF Technical - vibrating at 90mph

Took my MGF VVC for drive on M25 the other day and started to get a vibration at around 90 mph after about 98 mph the vibration died down anybody else encounter this problem?

Wheel balance? Check that all the balance weights are still there and/or get a wheel balance done.

As Bruce says, wheel balance is a cause of this - but so is incorrect tracking.

Check your front tyres for wear (especially the inner edges). If the tyres are worn, you'll have to get them replaced. If not, get the car re-tracked, and the wheel balance checked.

Hope that helps, and let us know how you get on.

... not to forget the ride height to be checked whether it dropped dramatic below 365mm (measured at the front wheels).

Could have been all the radar and laser signals from the speed traps bouncing off the car!
Was this vibration accompanied by a lot of flashing noticeable in the rear view mirror?

Surely if it is illegal to use a mobile phone whilst driving then using a vibrator at 90 mph must be a '12 points' offence - even if it is fun:-)

If it was weights on the wheel you would find the vibration kicking in at 30 mph(ish).

Get you car on a ramp and check the state of your tyres, they might be out of shape. I had the same problem. My tyre was warped most worring as I had done 128 mph on the M1 back from Northampton.

Sunil

PS have you got any tyre wear ??

Wheel balancing.

I had a similar problem with my VVC, vibration started coming on about 75 and then got worse until it died down again about 95. Had all four wheels balanced and the two wheels with new tyres were out and required rebalancing. Smooth as silk at all speeds now.

Paul

perhaps if you took the vibrator out of your ar*e then the vibrating sensation will go away
