MG MGF Technical - Water dripping in the passenger footwell

Hi,

I have noticed that I seem to have water dripping from the bottom of air-conditioner box in the passenger footwell, it this likely to be condensation or something more serious ?

Thanks

Hi Nigel

The drain pipe for the evaporator is blocked.
Instead of the water dripping to the ground, it leaks into the car. It is fiddly to do. Just get a torch and stick your head into the footwell. The pipe will be blocked or detached. Remove and clean thoroughly in hot water.

The carpet and underlay will have absorbed a lot of water, so be certain that you dry them well.

*stop press* ;) before you start...
Notice the amount of water to be expected when you pull away the obviously blocked rubber drain hose.
This could be about one litre, so have a big enough vessel to hands.....

Carefully cut the hose tip with a sharp knife open and put back.

No description but images from the subject.

Could also be the old problem of rain water getting in around the heater inlet air box. Usually manifests itself as a shower on the passengers feet when you first pull away after car has been parked in the rain. Hope it's the blocked drain pipe as above!

You were the kind person who answered this question for me last year. The tube was blocked.
I think it will be the a/c as we have had virtually no rain.

Thank you for the help last year.

I'm worried now.
2 weeks ago I dried out the carpets as I got everything flooded in the winter when I had the hard top on. To keep the air moving, I ran with the windows down an inch, first the passenger and then the drivers side. On both these occasions I stupidly left the windows down overnight and it poured with rain!!! No damage or rust.
I can only see a drain in the plastic box under the front bonnet, is there another water drain in the heater core ducting assembly?
