MG MGF Technical - Water level sensor kit

I am planning to install the water lever sensor kit received from B&G on the weekend. I am quite newby on this and quite not catch where the kit is to be connected to the electrical source. My car is 1997 reg.
Any install advise and details will be most welcome.
Thanks. Andy.

Did the kit not come with the B&G fitting instructions??
If not, they can be downloaded from their website.

Where to connect depends if your cigar lighter is on with ignition off.

There should be a loom with the kit and for a 97 mgf it should normally be the cigar lighter.

I fitted mine no problem.

newer year cars have cigar lighter permantely on so can't use this now, so this will be your check

98vvc fitted kit last weekend with ease power from lighter also no need to remove t-bar just follow bonnet release cable and then under t-bar behind drivers seat best way to fit expansion tank is to shringe coolent out of old one first hope this helps.

another tip when fitting light in centre console don't fit to high otherwise the flip down compartment will hit it and not open fully.

I didn't use the supplied lamp - not a fan of the 'aftermarket look'. There is a redundant catalyst over heat lamp that is just begging to be used - and that's where mine is wired to.

Now looks OE :o)

PS The kit gave me quite a fright at Silverstone - I heard the alarm long before seeing the lamp. A slightly low coolant level tripped the sensor after sloshing around entering into Brooklands... So I headed into the pits, topped up, and off I went - and wasn't bothered by the alarm again.

Nice to know it works :o)

rob can you pls supply more info onwiring into catalyst over heat lamp.

If the cat overheated would'nt that mean you were already a fireball? Definitely redundant.

I had the instrument binnacle out of the dash to repair the three broken binnacle shroud brackets. I took some pictures...

It's an obvious lamp to go for as it is not integrated into the printed circuit on the back of the instrument pack - but rather is a separate bulb holder.

Two wires - green and black with yellow tracer.

Snip them, and substitute for the wires that you've got going to the supplied lamp.

Might get around to doing a 'How to' shortly - but it is pretty straightforward. Looks great too :o)

My Steptronic only has the VVC oil high temp light free.
I must do some more investigation as rather than remove the instrument panel and <snip> wires, these wires may go back to the engine bay for an easier connection

That's very probable! Good luck locating the wires though - it may be that you won't find them in the engine bay, as the MPi and VVC use a different engine wiring loom. Which means you may have to pick up from the main harness...

As ever though, there is more than one correct way to do this :o)
