MG MGF Technical - water trough the windows

I have noticed that there are some points where the water get through when raining heavy.
The windows seems to close quite well except at a small triangular area between the glass and the rubber at the front. Any easy way to correct that?
Thanks.
Mike.

If you follow the instructions on this site, you should be able to fix it.

Not a 5 minute job - I spent several hours re adjusting both doors and windows with the desired results. Follow the instructions Johan posted carefully and you'll succeed. D

If you have an early car it may be that you need a MK2 windsceen seal, a bit thicker than the MK1. However if you have a TF it should just be a matter of a window adjustment. Pretty straight forward you just need to be patient.

Yes. I have a 1.8 MPi 98 with only 15k. The windscreen seals seems to be fine. I get water entering trough the windows only. How do I manage to get better seals?. I mean how to order and whom to order from.
Many thanks indeed.

The Triangular area I think you are refering to is known as the cheater - this is a common problem, and usually caused by this pressing too tightly on the seal and stopping the water from draining.

Check out the archieves, there is plenty of information on this - I adjusted mine following the instructions on the above web-sites.

New hartop seals can be bought from Mike Satur or MGF Centre who advertise at the top of these pages or I suspect any other MGR dealership.

Mike,
can you send pictures of the leak locations you found ?
The cars VIN may be useful as well to recommend details (please send by email). I daubt your car is really a 98 made due to long shipment delay.

The problem with mg fs and tfs is that they don't have a gutter, i suspect that the water that you see running down the door casing next to the mirror cheater, is water that is let into the car when you open the door and it is raining. Once the water is in the car it slowly drip onto the door casing. Try to get somebody to simulate rain on the car to see if it is REALLY LEAKING (don't open the door or you will let water in)

Actually it is a quite visible small triangular area -one inch long- were the windows does not oclude well, located at the front top -not the cheater-. It looks as if the window, instead of pressing into the rubber seal, overlaps on it.

Dieter,
You may be right. In this country Rover keeps the MGs in boxes until they sell them. There are very few around. My car was bought in 2000. Thatīs why I only count 15.000 Km in the clock.
VIN is SARRDWBGMAD018694, red flame with black top. She already came equipped with ABS and EPAS.

Is the hood fully closing properly, i sometimes have this small open area at the corner when i first shut my top. I sometimes lock one side, then the other, then unlock one side and re-lock then do the other side again. This gets rid of any gaps that exist when i first shut the top. It also helps sometime if the window is open and you pull the corner of the hood forward when you are locking it. Just an idea.
Paul

Apart from that is sounds just like a pre Sept 97 hood, be interesting to see where the VIN puts its age.

Hmmm, I normally don't post the individual data collection *estimations* to the public Forum. I suspect in this case it's anyway cause Argenetina is far away. :))

The car was made in January 1997 (+- a few weeks failure). A standard export model.
So Paul is right. You have the MK1 hood.
MGR started several product changes regarding the hood sills, window size etc. in early 1997 ending up in about October.
Mike see email inbox later for details I need to look up.

However I think the add on of water drain gaps to the lower door sill section and good window adjustment will do the job. The front clips of the hood are probabbly tightened to much and I assume the crazy window stops might have gone as well.

I had the same prpoblem solved with e six inch length of rubber tube about 1/4" in diameter. This was palced in the rubber channel which runs down the side of the car. The problem is that this channel closes and in so doing allows the water to spill out and enter the car by the chaeter. The rubber tube allows the water to drain properly. The tube is the sort used in the radiator overflow system

Good luck
