MG MGF Technical - wet passenger floor

Cab someone advise me. I have a wet passenger floor.

The car has air con. Question - having read the archives is the air box still the problem when air con is fitted or is it just the drain pipe?

Hi David,

I too have aircon and have suffered the problem of a wet passenger floor (LH side). The problem is basically the same for cars with and without aircon. I cured mine by resealing around the outside of the airbox but others have had to remove the airbox and fit a new seal. Removing the airbox is more dificult with aircon fitted. I'll send you some photos.

cheers

Forgot to say that - yes, if the pipe underneath the aircon unit has come off inside the car then you can end up with wet carpets. The pipe is easy to check, just stand on your head in the passenger footwell!

The drain pipe goes through the bulkhead and has lips on the outlet to prevent ingress of water. This outlet easily blocks causing condensate to build up and overflow. I removed the pipe and 1/2 cup of water drained out.
This is now an annual service check item.

Thank you in advance.

It may be a simple blockage in the trough inside the bonnet, there is a plate that is located in front of the screen and under the yellow relay there is a slot to carry away water that runs off the screen. Mine was choked with leaves and clearing the slot solved the problem. I never did locate the entry to the footwell. Another source is a 1" aprox circular hole in the floor pan, this is located about a foot in from the cill and obvious when you have the carpet up to dry out the underfelt. I resealed it with DUNDUM non setting gunge.
