MG MGF Technical - What is this wire for ?
Can anyone help me on this one. Whilst trying to cure a 'squeaky' seat on my TF160 I noticed a wire with a connector going into the underside of the drivers seat. Does anyone know what it is it for? |

??? seat belt pre-tensioner ??? OR you may the one TF with an electric chair!!! |
JohnP |
Correct john. It is for the pre-tentioner, it controlls the firing of the explosive. I think the SRS cables are all yellow? |
Kingsley |
Explosives !!! Let me in on this one -- How does the pre-tensioner work ? Steve |
Steve Greenhalgh |
IIRC, (and i'll probably be corrected on this) When the SRS system is activated a charge is set off in the pretentioner which pulls a wire connected to the seat belt clip, as a result this pulls you into the seat. |

.....Or, the automotive answer of the Heimlich Manoeuvre Ted. :o) |

OK Tim when I next get a peanut stuck in the wind pipe I'll sit in the car and set off the seat belt :-) Ted |

In my case only on days with an odd numbered date. On even numbered days like today the SRS lamp is on and the pretensioners not armed. And this is a safety feature? |

Thanks Everyone. Steve |

Brian, no it's a cost saving feature. if you were to crash the car you wouldn't need to replace the airbags and pretentioners. These would easily cost a few hundred pounds.;) |
Kingsley |
>> These would easily cost a few hundred pounds.;) And I guess that the airbag at the passengers site will go off no matter if a passenger is present or not. |
