MG MGF Technical - What the F do I do with scratches?

Hi everyone,

I have recently bought a Yreg tahiti blue MGF for a fantastic price.. However.. this is partly because it has a line of hairline scratches along the drivers side door!! Apart from that its in good shape. The scratches are hardly noticible... but I NOTICE THEM (I'm sure you understand :).

Anyway.. There is me thinking a little t-cut will do the trick.. (if only I knew you needed a little paint left to play with).. thats right even though the scratches are light.. the scratches are not blue!

I've tried coloured T-cut to fill em in, which has only worked to a slight extent.

I've heard that touchup pens can look crap and that spraypainting the door alone will standout compared to the rest of the paintwork!!

What am I to do... respray the whole car because of 0.1% damage?? Furthermore, I find the whole 'stone chip' thing depressing

Any help on these paint issues would be greatly appreciated!
James

Contact them on Monday, get the number of your nearest franchisee and speak to them. You will normally get honest advice and generally superb service at a sensible cost. I was very pleased when they de-chipped and de-supermarket trolleyed my car just after I bought it.

James try JohnP's recommendation.

I heard a lot of good outcomes from this place. I want to try but a little far away from here.

Hanah perhaps you should investigate setting up an NZ francise for Chipsaway? Not like medicine must fun working with cars:-)

I recently had to have a spray job as some git opened the boot on my 2001 Antracite MGF with a crowbar. I too was concerned about the paint match however was assured by the body shop concerned that as the car was only a couple of years old it would'nt be a problem.

Good news is that it was'nt and the car is back to looking superb.

I suspect the same would apply to your MGF, I have heard many good reports about chipsaway so would agree with John P, get it down there and sorted.

Hi everyone!

I would like to thank all of you for your advice! The car will be in service for 3 days...noooo, and will include striping down the door, repairing/filling the deep scratches and applying all levels of paint and protection. Like Steve said the paint comparison will be EXACT, partly due to its age (Yreg), but its mainly influenced by the skill of the restorer!

All of this including a FULL vallet comes to around £340 inc vat, however, the end result will be a showroom finish!! My cars getting a bit of well deserved TLC!!

Thanks again everyone

James ;)

p.s nice to know people love the MGF as much as I do

James

Where are you having it done? MGR Dealer, local bodyshop, ChipsAway franchise etc etc ??
JohnP @home

Dear James

I had two bad scratches on two doors and had the job done by local chipsaway payd cash in hand and a good job he did........ok it was over £75 but its a good paint job done well.
