MG MGF Technical - What would you do??

Hi Everyone,

As some of you may have read my other thread i started a while ago "Another HGF".

I have just about got my car back (pick her up afterwork tonight)

I have been wondering what to do and thought i would make up my mind by the time i got the car back!!

However i am still undecided..

Option One:

Keep the car and get a Warrenty for a year cost around £300 and get a sensor fitted plus any other things you good folks come up with !! ANY ADVISE WOULD BE WELCOME AS TO WHAT I CAN DO TO STOP ME WORRING EVERYTIME I DRIVE THE CAR.

ALSO WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT WARRENTY'S ??

Option Two:

Sell the car and get something else, there are a few drawbacks with this, The MGF is the best looking car of it's type around the MX 5 looks cheap sort of like driving round in a shoe box it has no style isn't eye pleaseing but the plus point is it's supposed to be Very Reliable..
The BMW Z3 is Horrible looks ok but drives awful i test drove 2 this weekend and both were really slow at the start until the engine kicks in i really don't wont one of these..

The only other car is the Toyota MR 2 new style..

I haven't driven one yet so no idea but they look a little like the MGF and again they are supposed to be reliable..

Finally and the big point when i drove the Z3 the guy at the garage shocked me by saying i would only get about £2000 for my MGF i know they try it on but i am not prepared to lose over £1000 in 3 months plus the £800 + i have just spent..

So what would you do??

I probebly know the answer but it's always good to ask what other people think!!

Many Thanks

Jeff

The F is a great looking car it also out handles and performs the MX 5 and MR 2. As you have had the HG fixed you should have a sensor fitted rember to warm her up for the first 5 or 6 miles and you should have a trouble free period ahead( excuse the pun ). Now just go out and enjoy your F.

Jeoff
a mate of mine has a w reg mr2
It,s cost him over £500.00 on two sensors being replaced recently and said to me i thought toyota,s were reliable!!
The parts were the main cost and there are 3 sensors ,2 now done so exspecting the third to go,something to do with the engine management light coming on and off.
If they have wheels or t*ts they will cost money 0;)

The reason for the "broadband" exthaust sensors let go on the Toyotas is the cr@p petrol found at certain petrol stations. Use only wellknown branded fuels and all will be fine !
When it comes to the F, don´t worry - be happy ! Drive and enjoy, of course with the precausions mentioned by many on this board. And by all means,if you will get another car - don´t get a Clown Shoe.... ;O)

Thanks for all your comments so far keep them coming !!

MR2's are great cars to drive and run but have you seen the boot? No, neither has anyone else :)
Tony

Just like to include here that MGF is a different beast to mr2 mx5 etc MGF will i am sure go on to be loved and cherished for years to come hard to imagine its jap counterparts being loved in the same way regardless of which is the best car

Nice one Tony :0)
I was surprised when i checked out my mates car, NO BOOT !!
But they do have a small area at the front where you can fit a sparrow or something of a similiar size.

To be fair to the MR2 they do have large cubby holes behind the seat - the one I was given a ride in took my Mars Bars and bottle of water without a problem!

Hi Guys,

Well i have decided to keep the MGF, got her back last night and all seems ok but god how paranoid am i when i got her homw i opened the boot to check the water level and it seemed hot in the engine area so i drove it strat back to the garage only to be told that it was normal and not to worry it would have been just the same before the HGF...

No pun intended but 'stay cool' Jeff!!

I'm the same with mine- the thing is, when you have a nice toy like Fs/TFs that give you enjoyment, satisfaction, a hobby and a stupid grin when you floor it with the roof down; you get attached to it. The MG is 'only' a machine, but were are imperfect and emotional humans. I reckon every other MG type owner feels the same.

My TF is on borrowed time; my wife and I are planning a family so we will need a family barge. Our other car is a wee Punto Sporting; cheap, fun and ours has lots of gadgets. It makes more sense to us keep that with £££s being an issue (oh, and we're tykes too!).

As Slartibartfarst (sp?) said to Arthur Dent; 'that's just ordinary paranoia, every living thing in the universe suffers from that'.

As for a replacement for a TF...see what Nanjing offer us with their new TF...

Happy MGing Jeff, maybe catch you at the Elslack natter?
Timmeh

Jeff,

Carry on checking (visually) the water level. Note, only remove the water tank cap when the water is stone cold, last thing you want is to get air pockets forming cos you've checked the coolant levels when it's been hot.

The engine bays do get hot. Put a bottle of red wine in the net in the boot if you want to warm it up on the way back from the shops!

Timmeh,
Everything ok at present i am trying, don't know what the Elslack natter?

Leigh Reid, cheers..
