MG MGF Technical - White smoke from Exhaust

Hi,

My 1998 MGF VVC has started to blow out white smoke (non smelling) from the exhaust, this appears to increase once the engine is warm. I increased the revs on standing and it bellowed out, I have noticed intermittent smoke for a few weeks but now seems constant.

I had HGF about 4 weeks ago...
Had new exhaust, lambda sensor and cat this march....

Any suggestions?
Cheers?

Doesn't sound good Mat, it could be just blowing out fluid in the exhaust etc. But I had a similar issue 3 years ago, a garage attempted to repair an HGF, skimmed head & managed to get the car running, but it was never right, including smoke from exhaust as described.

After blowing the gasket again they p****d about with the car for an age before admitting defeat, resulting in me sourcing a replacement engine. I hope you’re luckier than me, or the work was under warrantee or similar.

Good luck! Russ.

Is the HGF work guaranteed !
Is the Oil level too full ?
Is your oil level falling ?
as it sounds like oil burning.
Is it mis-firing at all ?
one of at least three things,
piston rings or liner damaged,
head needed skimming now allowing oil into cylinder, oil leaking down valve stems.

Not a lot of help sorry

Thanks Mike, there is no noticeable drop in oil or coolant, it isn’t mis-firing and the ‘smoke’ hasn’t got any distinctive smell of any sort. I think it may be steam as once it leaves the exhaust it clears quite quickly.

The original HGF repairs included skimming the head, pressure tests confirmed it wasn’t cracked.

Its booked to go in on Thursday with the original guys who did the HGF repairs…. Is there the possibility that this may be HGF? Is there anything I can confirm they’ve checked before carrying out more repairs?

cheers
Mat

OK,
weather is colder now so steam is coming out of the exhaust in the UK now, not so much here in Singapore.
:-)
If the exhaust "white smoke" is not blue tinged and smelling a litte of oil, and the exhaust pipe is not oily, then as it's nearly winter, relax , it's condensation, h20 , steam no problem does it stop when the car is upto road temperature (not relevant for scandic contries and January weather extremes)

Unfortunately not.... The car appears fine when first stared, it gets worse as the car is at normal temparature.

The temp guage is usually just below the halfway point however the engine bay does seem pretty hot and the coolant level expands quite a bit even on a short journey (5 mins...)

I was hoping it was condensation but it's not looking likely......
