MG MGF Technical - Who can fit my start button

AGAIN this weekend i spent about 2 hours trying to fit my start button and agian, i didnt get it to work.

I have all the wires needed, i have all the tapping things, etc...

where and who can fit it for me - i have had enough and just want it sorted now. I have had it since mid march and i really cant be bothered any more.

Anyone know of anywhere in the Lakeside / Romford area that will fit it for me, will do a good job, and wont rip me off.

i know its only a "30 min job when you know what you are doing" but i dont think i could spend another wasted "30 mins" fitting next weekend, and then the weekend after that, etc...etc...

I would appreciate a reply.

Thanks guys/gals.

Are you anywhere near Benfleet during today or tomorrow?

If so I can do it FOC. Might be able to do Wed lunch time, if not I could do it in a couple of weeks time,

Richard,

Thats very kind, and FOC - money for beers at the very least.

Benfleet - i know where that is, well ish. I fell asleep on a train from Fenchurch St. once (one or two beers had been drunk) and i ended up shooting through my station and ending up there. I know it cost me £35 for a cab back home!!

I am not going to be able to make it tonight or tomorrow. I often dont leave work until 7pm, will be back home by 8pm normally and then have to get to where you are...

That is obviously less than convinient for you.

You prompt response and offer is very much appreciated though!

Do / would / is there another option?

I think we've all missed our stop once or twice due to a good sesh!

I'm away on business for a couple of weeks, but I'll be at the Essex Roadsters meet on the 1st July. It'll be at the Dick Turpin on the A127 just before the A130 turn off any time after 19:30. If you can't get it done before then, I'll bring my tools and subject to rain will fit it. Other than that, if your in the Chelmsford area I could do it a bit sooner,

Thanks Rich - you seem very confident that it will be done quickly and easily.

I only wish i had your confidence!!

Bloody thing.
I am sure that i have followed it to the letter - i get a click noise (its the fuse switching) but the car doent turn at all - i must be missing something - all the wires are wired up.

Hmmmm.
John

Are you trying it with the door open, mine doesn't work if the door is open as it is wired to the courtesy light circuit.
Chris Catchpole

John, I looked in all the usual places for info about it all, and found that most didn't give me the right info at all. Richard P is the man for this, although I would advise fitting a relay as well. I did mine recently with the S2000 strarter switch and it works a treat. (See you on the 1st Rich!)

At the mo, I can't remember the colours of the wires (had a bad day, so had a bottle of red!) but Rich will be able to help you, if you can wait until 1st July. Otherwise I'll get under the dash and have a look tomorrow if you want and let you know. Email me if you need it as soon as.

Don't talk to me about missing train stops! I get off in Witham (just after Chelmsford) and it is a regular thing that I wake up in Colchester or worse, Ipswich! £60 taxi ride is not a pleasant thing especially after you've spent a shedload in London as well!!

LOL - the trains journeys, what a laugh eh?!

As for the start button. I had one last go last night - i wired it up and pressed the botton, and wait for it, wait for it, it didnt work!!!

The colours that are under my dash are the problem - there is a purple wire, a yellow and black, a red and white and a yellow on its own.

i have the purple as the constant voltage, the red and white is the crank, and the yellow and black is the ignition - that is what i recon, but the wires changed in 2001 (which is what my one is) and it seems that the colours that i have been told dont match up with what i have in the car.

if someone would have a look to see what they have it would be appreciated.

(yes i have been looking for information on the web as well to see if there are details on how to install a start button but there is nothing of any detail - hopefully this thread might help others when they try to do it!)

Keep the posting coming!!
