MG MGF Technical - Who now has access to the immobiliser access codes

One of those thoughts just popped into my head when I glanced at the word 'code' - and the question that forms this thread title occurred to me - if your remote immobiliser stopped working, and you bought your MG without all the security codes provided, how would you be able to start your car?

Presumably there is a database somewhere - but does it reside with the dealers, or was it at the factory?

If it was at the factory, has this data been retained, or has it been lost???

Rob,

I just posted something similar on the F Register Forum this morning :-)
David Clelland

Didn't see that David - great minds etc etc :o)

Now you mention it, I don't know where is my code !
I knew the one for the F from memory...
Fabrice

all the codes are held on a database which can still be accessed by mgr dealers and it is still live i just checked.im not sure if the database is at longbridge or how long it will remain live but after a year its still working so fingers crossed for the future

Is there any way of finding out more about the database? It is of considerable interest to all current and future owners that this information is secured for the long-term.

And not allowed to fall into the hands of the more criminal elements of society.

Rob, I was talking to a guy in Avon Electronics today about getting a 3rd blipper programmed. He was saying that the codes are held on the alarm ecu as well. They have a "pod" that plugs into the car and syncs the new blipper, but he is looking into a way of programming this pod to retrieve the code.

I'll post more details when I get them.

it is only available to mgr and x-part dealers and reading between the lines as an x-part dealer we pay a monthly subscription to gain access to this site and the technical bullitins and security data held within.as long as dealers keep paying the data will still be available.
zs-andy

That's interesting - so the codes are with X-Part?

Andrew - that pod sounds interesting. Not much use to the tea-leaf either, unless he's able to gain easy access to the ECU.

Most definitely Jay!!!
Rob Bell

not sure if x-part actually hold the codes we just pay them a monthly subscription to access the mgr technical website.
the codes can be retrieved from the alarm ecu using t4 and can even be recoded to a number of your choice if required.

That's nice - but could leave a future owner stuck until they get access to a t4.

BTW, does this latter feature apply to all versions of MEMS, or just MEMS3?
Rob Bell

Just to confirm or/and disagree with the database for I think it's called EKA Code.
Another speciallist (who should know it from first hand) said XPart hasn't.

XPart only have the database for radio codes.

EKA Code is read out with Testbook version T3 and T4 if the system is armed.

dieter you are correct that t4 can read the codes from the alarm control unit.the eka codes and the radio codes and also key numbers can be retrieved from the mgr technical database which x-part dealers pay a monthly subscription to access
zs-andy

Hi guys

I just got my EKA code from a local dealer who still had the data stored. All I needed was proof of ownership i.e. V5.
I agree with you Rob that it would be preferable if someone like the F'register or MGCC / MGOC had the data. At present it seems it is just waiting to be lost !
