MG MGF Technical - Window gone faulty

Hello to you all

My passenger side window packed in today.

It got stuck half open and wouldn't go either up or down!

The motor continues to run though, before it failed it was making a kind of bumping noise when it was closeing and it actually wouldn't close properly.

Can anyone who has had similar problems help me discover what is wrong here ?

Can this be fixed or do I need replacment parts?

I dismantled the door (quiet easy) and tied the window shut with some wire so it is at least secure.

Thanks in anticipation

Hello David,

sounds like the window motor gear has gone.
Either the outer small or inside the white coloured plastic gear.
There are no spares but the whole assy available.

This is what you need (without the bracket on the right)
Note that RH and LH is different and the best place will be a scrap yard to look for spares.

At a recent service where I had done most of it myself and had asked the garage to do the rest, unprompted they "lubricated the window runners". There was nothing wrong with the window action as far as I knew, but maybe this is something which needs to be done to save over-loading that mechanism...

David,
E-Bay is a good source but as this is a common failutre, so a used assembly may be no better than the one that you are throwing away or actually be someone elses faiure. I have not looked at EBay for some time so you may find a 'New' assembly at a reasonable price however the 'Bankruptcy Stock' went to the usual suspects and are about £140 each. Half of the X-Part No. Try B&G or MS.
I took this route as I only wanted to change it once.
