MG MGF Technical - Windscreen Washers

Does anybody have any suggestion on unblocking the windscreen washer jets on days like today?

Thanks in advance
Alan

Fitting some heated washer jets? If not blocked with ice, then use some pins from your SO's sewing kit (or one of those pins that shirts are often packed with) - usually enough to clear the gunge from the nozzle's orifice :o)

Heated jet kit = VUB100220 and is about 40 quid

Heated jets still freeze up though, mine did yesterday.

Yup - the pipes below the nozels aren't heated so can freeze. Only option here is to increase the antifreeze content of your washer fluid. Either that or come up with a cunning plan whereby all the tubing is heated! ;o)

Cunning plan? have you put another engine under there ;-)

I think I prefer Baldrick's solution that involves the cunning use of a Turnip.

Use appropriate level of screen wash for winter.

Heated jets only stop the freezing when (non heated) scoosh evaporates and then the remainder freezes.

Top tip:
Don't use antifreeze as a friend once did. <grin>

While we are on the subject.

The washers are useless Has anyone managed a version like the Ford Explorer which actually sprays water in a wide fan jet rather than have a single jet? With the version we have you get windscreen scratches and damage as the blades as they move through a large dry patch before finding the results of the "doggy"

My 1996 F still has no scratches on the screen but I always replace blades at start of winter.

Suspect our climate is better as the screen is seldom dry enough to get scratches:-)

My washers send 4 doggy jets onto the screen and the wind movement spreads it before I trip the wipers.

The Mercedes system is quite good. The washer jets are actually in the wiper blade and spray along the length of the blade as it moves. It really does work very well.

The heated washer jets seem to have a better spay pattern than the originals. Well worth the 40 quid. I built a small outside temperature sensor (maplins Ice warning kit), so they only switch on when required.

50% screen wash , only solution to this problem, use this on my F and my van and no probs .but use good quality screen wash, cheap stuff ,no good,

I think that we ought to ask Scarlet his opinions and thoughts on this clever idea Bob... Andy? Are you there?
